English Standard Version

7 (A)The wine mourns,
    the vine languishes,
    all the merry-hearted sigh.
8 (B)The mirth of the tambourines is stilled,
    the noise of the jubilant has ceased,
    the mirth of the lyre is stilled.
9 No more do they drink wine (C)with singing;
    strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.

    all the merrymakers groan.(C)
8 The joyful timbrels(D) are stilled,
    the noise(E) of the revelers(F) has stopped,
    the joyful harp(G) is silent.(H)
9 No longer do they drink wine(I) with a song;
    the beer is bitter(J) to its drinkers.
