La pace perpetua
2 Ciò che Isaia, figlio di Amoz, vide riguardo a Giuda e a Gerusalemme.
2 Alla fine dei giorni,
il monte del tempio del Signore
sarà eretto sulla cima dei monti
e sarà più alto dei colli;
ad esso affluiranno tutte le genti.
3 Verranno molti popoli e diranno:
«Venite, saliamo sul monte del Signore,
al tempio del Dio di Giacobbe,
perché ci indichi le sue vie
e possiamo camminare per i suoi sentieri».
Poiché da Sion uscirà la legge
e da Gerusalemme la parola del Signore.
4 Egli sarà giudice fra le genti
e sarà arbitro fra molti popoli.
Forgeranno le loro spade in vomeri,
le loro lance in falci;
un popolo non alzerà più la spada
contro un altro popolo,
non si eserciteranno più nell'arte della guerra.
5 Casa di Giacobbe, vieni,
camminiamo nella luce del Signore.
Splendore e maestà del Signore
6 Tu hai rigettato il tuo popolo,
la casa di Giacobbe,
perché rigurgitano di maghi orientali
e di indovini come i Filistei;
agli stranieri battono le mani.
7 Il suo paese è pieno di argento e di oro,
senza fine sono i suoi tesori;
il suo paese è pieno di cavalli,
senza numero sono i suoi carri.
8 Il suo paese è pieno di idoli;
adorano l'opera delle proprie mani,
ciò che hanno fatto le loro dita.
9 Perciò l'uomo sarà umiliato,
il mortale sarà abbassato;
tu non perdonare loro.
10 Entra fra le rocce,
nasconditi nella polvere,
di fronte al terrore che desta il Signore,
allo splendore della sua maestà,
quando si alzerà a scuotere la terra.
11 L'uomo abbasserà gli occhi orgogliosi,
l'alterigia umana si piegherà;
sarà esaltato il Signore, lui solo
in quel giorno.
12 Poiché ci sarà un giorno del Signore degli eserciti
contro ogni superbo e altero,
contro chiunque si innalza ad abbatterlo;
13 contro tutti i cedri del Libano alti ed elevati,
contro tutte le querce del Basan,
14 contro tutti gli alti monti,
contro tutti i colli elevati,
15 contro ogni torre eccelsa,
contro ogni muro inaccessibile,
16 contro tutte le navi di Tarsis
e contro tutte le imbarcazioni di lusso.
17 Sarà piegato l'orgoglio degli uomini,
sarà abbassata l'alterigia umana;
sarà esaltato il Signore, lui solo
in quel giorno
18 e gli idoli spariranno del tutto.
19 Rifugiatevi nelle caverne delle rocce
e negli antri sotterranei,
di fronte al terrore che desta il Signore
e allo splendore della sua maestà,
quando si alzerà a scuotere la terra.
20 In quel giorno ognuno getterà
gli idoli d'argento e gli idoli d'oro,
che si era fatto per adorarli,
ai topi e ai pipistrelli,
21 per entrare nei crepacci delle rocce
e nelle spaccature delle rupi,
di fronte al terrore che desta il Signore
e allo splendore della sua maestà,
quando si alzerà a scuotere la terra.
22 Guardatevi dunque dall'uomo,
nelle cui narici non v'è che un soffio,
perché in quale conto si può tenere?

2 (A)Parola che *Isaia, figlio di Amots, ebbe in visione, riguardo a *Giuda e a *Gerusalemme.
2 Avverrà, negli ultimi giorni,
che il monte della casa del Signore
si ergerà sulla vetta dei monti,
e sarà elevato al di sopra dei colli;
e tutte le nazioni affluiranno a esso.
3 Molti popoli vi accorreranno, e diranno:
«Venite, saliamo al monte del Signore,
alla casa del Dio di *Giacobbe;
egli ci insegnerà le sue vie,
e noi cammineremo per i suoi sentieri».
Da *Sion, infatti, uscirà la legge,
e da Gerusalemme la parola del
Signore.
4 Egli giudicherà tra nazione e nazione
e sarà l'arbitro fra molti popoli;
ed essi trasformeranno le loro spade in vomeri d'aratro,
e le loro lance, in falci;
una nazione non alzerà piú la spada contro un'altra,
e non impareranno piú la guerra.
5 Casa di Giacobbe,
venite, e camminiamo alla luce del Signore!
Giudizio contro gli idolatri e gli orgogliosi
6 (B)Infatti tu, Signore, hai abbandonato il tuo popolo,
la casa di Giacobbe,
perché sono pieni di pratiche divinatorie,
praticano le arti occulte come i *Filistei,
fanno alleanza con i figli degli stranieri.
7 Il suo paese è pieno d'argento e d'oro,
e ha tesori a non finire;
il suo paese è pieno di cavalli,
e ha carri a non finire.
8 Il suo paese è pieno d'idoli:
si prostra davanti all'opera delle sue mani,
davanti a ciò che le sue dita hanno fatto.
9 (C)Perciò l'uomo sarà umiliato; ognuno sarà abbassato.
Tu non li perdonare.
10 Entra nella roccia,
e nasconditi nella polvere
per sottrarti al terrore del Signore
e allo splendore della sua maestà.
11 Lo sguardo altero dell'uomo sarà umiliato,
e l'orgoglio di ognuno sarà abbassato;
il Signore solo sarà esaltato in quel giorno.
12 Infatti il Signore degli eserciti ha un giorno
contro tutto ciò che è orgoglioso e altero,
e contro chiunque s'innalza, per abbassarlo;
13 contro tutti i cedri del Libano, alti, elevati,
e contro tutte le querce di *Basan;
14 contro tutti i monti alti,
e contro tutti i colli elevati;
15 contro ogni torre eccelsa,
e contro ogni muro fortificato;

The Mountain of the Lord(A)
2 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:(B)
2 In the last days(C)
the mountain(D) of the Lord’s temple will be established
as the highest of the mountains;(E)
it will be exalted(F) above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.(G)
3 Many peoples(H) will come and say,
“Come, let us go(I) up to the mountain(J) of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law(K) will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.(L)
4 He will judge(M) between the nations
and will settle disputes(N) for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.(O)
Nation will not take up sword against nation,(P)
nor will they train for war anymore.
The Day of the Lord
6 You, Lord, have abandoned(S) your people,
the descendants of Jacob.(T)
They are full of superstitions from the East;
they practice divination(U) like the Philistines(V)
and embrace(W) pagan customs.(X)
7 Their land is full of silver and gold;(Y)
there is no end to their treasures.(Z)
Their land is full of horses;(AA)
there is no end to their chariots.(AB)
8 Their land is full of idols;(AC)
they bow down(AD) to the work of their hands,(AE)
to what their fingers(AF) have made.
9 So people will be brought low(AG)
and everyone humbled(AH)—
do not forgive them.[a](AI)
10 Go into the rocks, hide(AJ) in the ground
from the fearful presence of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty!(AK)
11 The eyes of the arrogant(AL) will be humbled(AM)
and human pride(AN) brought low;(AO)
the Lord alone will be exalted(AP) in that day.(AQ)
12 The Lord Almighty has a day(AR) in store
for all the proud(AS) and lofty,(AT)
for all that is exalted(AU)
(and they will be humbled),(AV)
13 for all the cedars of Lebanon,(AW) tall and lofty,(AX)
and all the oaks of Bashan,(AY)
14 for all the towering mountains
and all the high hills,(AZ)
15 for every lofty tower(BA)
and every fortified wall,(BB)
16 for every trading ship[b](BC)
and every stately vessel.
17 The arrogance of man will be brought low(BD)
and human pride humbled;(BE)
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,(BF)
18 and the idols(BG) will totally disappear.(BH)
19 People will flee to caves(BI) in the rocks
and to holes in the ground(BJ)
from the fearful presence(BK) of the Lord
and the splendor of his majesty,(BL)
when he rises to shake the earth.(BM)
20 In that day(BN) people will throw away
to the moles and bats(BO)
their idols of silver and idols of gold,(BP)
which they made to worship.(BQ)
21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks(BR)
and to the overhanging crags
from the fearful presence of the Lord

2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.
7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:
8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:
9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.
10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty.
11 The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
12 For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:
13 And upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,
14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,
15 And upon every high tower, and upon every fenced wall,
16 And upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant pictures.
17 And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day.
18 And the idols he shall utterly abolish.
19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
21 To go into the clefts of the rocks, and into the tops of the ragged rocks, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of ?
