² Why was no one there when I came?
Why was there no one to answer when I called?
Is my arm too weak to redeem?^(A)
Or do I have no power to rescue?
Look, I dry up the sea by my rebuke;^(B)
I turn the rivers into a wilderness;
their fish rot because of lack of water
and die of thirst.

² I will completely sweep away everything
from the face of the earth^(A) –
this is the Lord’s declaration.

³ I will sweep away people and animals;^(A)
I will sweep away the birds of the sky
and the fish of the sea,
and the ruins^[a] along with the wicked.^(B)
I will cut off mankind
from the face of the earth.
