^17 (A)“Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one in the midst, ^(B)eating pig's flesh and the abomination and mice, shall come to an end together, declares the Lord.

⁷ And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, ^(A)is unclean to you.

²⁷ When Jesus^[a] had stepped out on land, there met him a man from the city who had demons. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he had not lived in a house ^(A)but among the tombs.

² And when Jesus^[a] had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. ^3 (A)He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, ⁴ for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. ⁵ Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones.

Jesus Heals Two Men with Demons

^28 (A)And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes,^[a] two ^(B)demon-possessed^[b] men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way.

¹⁴ Then I said, ^(A)“Ah, Lord God! Behold, I have never defiled myself.^{[a] (B)}From my youth up till now I have never eaten ^(C)what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has ^(D)tainted meat come into my mouth.”
