⁵ So too at the present time there is ^(A)a remnant, chosen by grace. ^6 (B)But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

^28 (A)There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave^[a] nor free, ^(B)there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And ^(C)if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, ^(D)heirs according to promise.

¹⁸ and ^(A)in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, ^(B)because you have obeyed my voice.”

¹⁶ Now ^(A)the promises were made ^(B)to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, ^(C)“And to your offspring,” who is Christ. ¹⁷ This is what I mean: the law, which came ^(D)430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as ^(E)to make the promise void. ¹⁸ For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but ^(F)God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

¹⁹ Why then the law? ^(G)It was added because of transgressions, ^(H)until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was ^(I)put in place through angels ^(J)by an intermediary.

^16 (A)If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ But if ^(B)some of the branches were broken off, and you, ^(C)although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root^[a] of the olive tree, ¹⁸ do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. ¹⁹ Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” ²⁰ That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you ^(D)stand fast through faith. So ^(E)do not become proud, but ^(F)fear. ²¹ For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. ²² Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, ^(G)provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise ^(H)you too will be cut off. ²³ And ^(I)even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. ²⁴ For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.

The Mystery of Israel's Salvation

^25 (J)Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers:^{[b] (K)}a partial hardening has come upon Israel, ^(L)until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. ²⁶ And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written,

²⁸ As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are ^(Q)beloved for the sake of their forefathers. ²⁹ For the gifts and ^(R)the calling of God are irrevocable.

^15 (A)Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?^[a] And what was the one God^[b] seeking?^{[c] (B)}Godly offspring. So guard yourselves^[d] in your spirit, and let none of you be ^(C)faithless to the wife of your youth.
