⁴⁰ And this is the will of Him who sent Me, ^(A)that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

² looking unto Jesus, the ^[a]author and ^[b]finisher of our faith, ^(A)who for the joy that was set before Him ^(B)endured the cross, despising the shame, and ^(C)has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁸ Then the Lord said to Moses, ^(A)“Make a ^(B)fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” ⁹ So ^(C)Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

Mourning for the Pierced One

^10 (A)“And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will ^(B)look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him ^(C)as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

^13 (A)No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man ^[a]who is in heaven. ^14 (B)And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so ^(C)must the Son of Man be lifted up, ¹⁵ that whoever ^(D)believes in Him should ^[b]not perish but ^(E)have eternal life. ^16 (F)For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten ^(G)Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

¹² O our God, will You not ^(A)judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but ^(B)our eyes are upon You.”
