²⁰ you were bought at a price.^(A) Therefore honor God with your bodies.^(B)

¹⁸ For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed^(A) from the empty way of life^(B) handed down to you from your ancestors, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood^(C) of Christ, a lamb^(D) without blemish or defect.^(E)

¹⁸ But this is how God fulfilled^(A) what he had foretold^(B) through all the prophets,^(C) saying that his Messiah would suffer.^{(D) 19} Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out,^(E) that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

¹² It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions,^(A) and to live self-controlled,^(B) upright and godly lives^(C) in this present age, ¹³ while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing^(D) of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,^{(E) 14} who gave himself for us^(F) to redeem us from all wickedness^(G) and to purify^(H) for himself a people that are his very own,^(I) eager to do what is good.^(J)
