    her fugitives^(C) flee as far as Zoar,^(D)
    as far as Eglath Shelishiyah.
They go up the hill to Luhith,
    weeping as they go;
on the road to Horonaim^(E)
    they lament their destruction.^(F)

⁸ “How can I give you up,^(A) Ephraim?^(B)
    How can I hand you over, Israel?
How can I treat you like Admah?
    How can I make you like Zeboyim?^(C)
My heart is changed within me;
    all my compassion^(D) is aroused.^(E)

³⁶ “So my heart laments^(A) for Moab like the music of a pipe;
    it laments like a pipe for the people of Kir Hareseth.^(B)
    The wealth they acquired^(C) is gone.

¹⁵ Look down from heaven^(A) and see,
    from your lofty throne,^(B) holy and glorious.
Where are your zeal^(C) and your might?
    Your tenderness and compassion^(D) are withheld^(E) from us.

²⁰ Is not Ephraim my dear son,
    the child^(A) in whom I delight?
Though I often speak against him,
    I still remember^(B) him.
Therefore my heart yearns for him;
    I have great compassion^(C) for him,”
declares the Lord.

    I writhe in pain.^(B)
Oh, the agony of my heart!
    My heart pounds^(C) within me,

For I have heard the sound of the trumpet;^(E)
