²⁰ Even though you intended to do harm to me, God intended it for good, in order to preserve a numerous people, as he is doing today.^(A)

²³ this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law.^(A)

²⁷ Because the residents of Jerusalem and their leaders did not recognize him or understand the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, they fulfilled those words by condemning him.^{(A) 28} Even though they found no cause for a sentence of death, they asked Pilate to have him killed.^{(B) 29} When they had carried out everything that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.^{(C) 30} But God raised him from the dead,^(D)

¹¹ See, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, destroying them utterly. Shall you be delivered?^{(A) 12} Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my predecessors destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar?^{(B) 13} Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of Laar, Sepharvaim, Hena, or Ivvah?”

¹⁸ Do not let Hezekiah mislead you by saying, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’ Has any of the gods of the nations delivered their land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?^{(A) 19} Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?^{(B) 20} Who among all the gods of these countries have delivered their countries out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?”^(C)
