²⁶ Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood?^(A)

²⁷ Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And his brothers agreed.^(A)

⁵ And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.^(A)

⁷ God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to keep alive for you many survivors.
