53 ¿Quién realmente creyó lo que oímos?
¿Quién vio en ello el gran poder del SEÑOR?
2 Creció delante de Dios como un retoño,
como una raíz en tierra seca.
No había en él hermosura o majestad
como para que nos fijáramos en él.
No había en él nada atrayente
como para que nos gustara.
3 La gente lo despreció y hasta sus amigos lo abandonaron;
era un hombre lleno de dolores y conocedor del sufrimiento.
Y como alguien a quien otros evitan,
lo despreciamos y no pensamos que fuera alguien importante.
4 Verdaderamente él soportó todos nuestros sufrimientos
y cargó con nuestros dolores.
Aunque nosotros pensamos que Dios lo había castigado,
golpeado y afligido,
5 en realidad él fue traspasado debido a nuestra rebeldía.
Fue magullado por las maldades que nosotros hicimos.
El castigo que él recibió hizo posible nuestro bienestar.
Sus heridas nos hicieron sanar a nosotros.
6 Todos nosotros nos habíamos perdido como ovejas.
Cada uno agarró su propio camino.
Pero el SEÑOR cargó en él
todo el castigo que nosotros merecíamos.
7 Lo trataron cruelmente y lo torturaron,
pero él se mantuvo humilde y no protestó.
Permaneció en silencio,
como cuando llevan a un cordero al matadero
o como cuando una oveja guarda silencio
ante los que la trasquilan.
8 Después de que lo arrestaron y condenaron, se lo llevaron.
¿Y a quién le importó lo que le iba a pasar?
Porque a él lo quitaron del mundo de los vivos.
Lo mataron por los pecados de su[a] pueblo.
9 Lo enterraron al lado de criminales
y en una tumba de ricos,
aunque él nunca fue violento
ni engañó a nadie.
10 Pero el SEÑOR se agradó de su humilde siervo,
quien tanto sufrió.[b]
Después de ser ofrecido como sacrificio por el pecado,
él verá a sus descendientes,
alargará su existencia
y la voluntad del SEÑOR prosperará a través de él.
11 Después de ese terrible sufrimiento, él verá la luz[c].
Se sentirá satisfecho con todo lo que experimentó.
«Mi siervo, que siempre hace lo justo, salvará a muchos,
y cargará con el castigo que merecían las maldades de ellos.
12 Por lo tanto, yo haré que esté al lado de los grandes,
y que comparta el botín con los poderosos.
Porque él se entregó voluntariamente a la muerte.
Fue tratado como un criminal,
pero en realidad el cargó sobre sí el castigo que muchos merecían.
Ahora él está ante mí,
intercediendo por los pecadores».

53 Who would have believed what we heard?
Who saw the Lord’s power in this?
2 He grew up like a small plant before the Lord.
He was like a root growing in a dry land.
He had no special beauty or form to make us notice him.
There was nothing in his appearance to make us desire him.
3 He was hated and rejected by people.
He had much pain and suffering.
People would not even look at him.
He was hated, and we didn’t even notice him.
4 But he took our suffering on him
and felt our pain for us.
We saw his suffering.
We thought God was punishing him.
5 But he was wounded for the wrong things we did.
He was crushed for the evil things we did.
The punishment, which made us well, was given to him.
And we are healed because of his wounds.
6 We all have wandered away like sheep.
Each of us has gone his own way.
But the Lord has put on him the punishment
for all the evil we have done.
7 He was beaten down and punished.
But he didn’t say a word.
He was like a lamb being led to be killed.
He was quiet, as a sheep is quiet while its wool is being cut.
He never opened his mouth.
8 Men took him away roughly and unfairly.
He died without children to continue his family.
He was put to death.
He was punished for the sins of my people.
9 He was buried with wicked men.
He died with the rich.
He had done nothing wrong.
He had never lied.
10 But it was the Lord who decided
to crush him and make him suffer.
So the Lord made his life a penalty offering.
But he will see his descendants and live a long life.
He will complete the things the Lord wants him to do.
11 He will suffer many things in his soul.
But then he will see life and be satisfied.
My good servant will make many people right with God.
He carried away their sins.
12 For this reason I will make him a great man among people.
He will share in all things with those who are strong.
He willingly gave his life.
He was treated like a criminal.
But he carried away the sins of many people.
And he asked forgiveness for those who sinned.

53 Who has believed our message(A)
and to whom has the arm(B) of the Lord been revealed?(C)
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,(D)
and like a root(E) out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance(F) that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,
a man of suffering,(G) and familiar with pain.(H)
Like one from whom people hide(I) their faces
he was despised,(J) and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain
and bore our suffering,(K)
yet we considered him punished by God,(L)
stricken by him, and afflicted.(M)
5 But he was pierced(N) for our transgressions,(O)
he was crushed(P) for our iniquities;
the punishment(Q) that brought us peace(R) was on him,
and by his wounds(S) we are healed.(T)
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,(U)
each of us has turned to our own way;(V)
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity(W) of us all.
7 He was oppressed(X) and afflicted,
yet he did not open his mouth;(Y)
he was led like a lamb(Z) to the slaughter,(AA)
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression[a] and judgment(AB) he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;(AC)
for the transgression(AD) of my people he was punished.[b]
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,(AE)
and with the rich(AF) in his death,
though he had done no violence,(AG)
nor was any deceit in his mouth.(AH)
10 Yet it was the Lord’s will(AI) to crush(AJ) him and cause him to suffer,(AK)
and though the Lord makes[c] his life an offering for sin,(AL)
he will see his offspring(AM) and prolong his days,
and the will of the Lord will prosper(AN) in his hand.
11 After he has suffered,(AO)
he will see the light(AP) of life[d] and be satisfied[e];
by his knowledge[f] my righteous servant(AQ) will justify(AR) many,
and he will bear their iniquities.(AS)
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,[g](AT)
and he will divide the spoils(AU) with the strong,[h]
because he poured out his life unto death,(AV)
and was numbered with the transgressors.(AW)
For he bore(AX) the sin of many,(AY)
and made intercession(AZ) for the transgressors.
