Hebrews 5:4-10

4 And one does not presume to take this honor but takes it only when called by God, just as Aaron was.(A)
5 So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest but was appointed by[a] the one who said to him,
“You are my Son;
today I have begotten you”;(B)
6 as he says also in another place,
“You are a priest forever,
according to the order of Melchizedek.”(C)
7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus[b] offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.(D) 8 Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered,(E) 9 and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,(F) 10 having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

4 And no one assumes this honor[a] on his own initiative,[b] but only when called to it by God,[c] as in fact Aaron was. 5 So also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming high priest, but the one who glorified him was God,[d] who said to him, “You are my Son! Today I have fathered you,”[e] 6 as also in another place God[f] says, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”[g] 7 During his earthly life[h] Christ[i] offered[j] both requests and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death and he was heard because of his devotion. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through the things he suffered.[k] 9 And by being perfected in this way, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 and he was designated[l] by God as high priest in the order of Melchizedek.[m]
