²⁷ Just as people are destined to die once,^(A) and after that to face judgment,^(B)

⁴ Or do you show contempt for the riches^(A) of his kindness,^(B) forbearance^(C) and patience,^(D) not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?^(E)

⁵ But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath^(F), when his righteous judgment^(G) will be revealed. ⁶ God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”^{[a](H) 7} To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor^(I) and immortality,^(J) he will give eternal life.^{(K) 8} But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil,^(L) there will be wrath and anger.^{(M) 9} There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil:^(N) first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;^{(O) 10} but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.^(P)

¹⁰ You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister^[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt?^(A) For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.^{(B) 11} It is written:

¹² So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.^(E)

The Judgment of the Dead

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne^(A) and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence,^(B) and there was no place for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small,^(C) standing before the throne, and books were opened.^(D) Another book was opened, which is the book of life.^(E) The dead were judged^(F) according to what they had done^(G) as recorded in the books. ¹³ The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades^(H) gave up the dead^(I) that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.^{(J) 14} Then death^(K) and Hades^(L) were thrown into the lake of fire.^(M) The lake of fire is the second death.^{(N) 15} Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life^(O) was thrown into the lake of fire.
