⁴ which had the golden altar of incense^(A) and the gold-covered ark of the covenant.^(B) This ark contained the gold jar of manna,^(C) Aaron’s staff that had budded,^(D) and the stone tablets of the covenant.^(E)

¹⁰ The Lord said to Moses, “Put back Aaron’s staff^(A) in front of the ark of the covenant law, to be kept as a sign to the rebellious.^(B) This will put an end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die.”

¹⁰ There was nothing in the ark except^(A) the two tablets^(B) that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.

⁵ The staff belonging to the man I choose^(A) will sprout,^(B) and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling^(C) against you by the Israelites.”

¹² He is to take a censer full of burning coals^(A) from the altar before the Lord and two handfuls of finely ground fragrant incense^(B) and take them behind the curtain.

³ Place the ark^(A) of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain.

³³ Hang the curtain from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind the curtain.^(A) The curtain will separate the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place.^(B)

²⁰ He took the tablets of the covenant law^(A) and placed them in the ark,^(B) attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover^(C) over it. ²¹ Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain^(D) and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the Lord commanded^(E) him.

The Radiant Face of Moses

²⁹ When Moses came down from Mount Sinai^(A) with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands,^(B) he was not aware that his face was radiant^(C) because he had spoken with the Lord.
