¹¹ Now, discipline always seems painful rather than pleasant at the time, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.^(A)

³ And not only that, but we^[a] also boast in our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance,^{(A) 4} and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, ⁵ and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.^(B)

¹⁷ For our slight, momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure,^(A)

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children—

¹⁰ For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share his holiness.^(A)

⁶ In this you rejoice,^[a] even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials,^(A)

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.^{(A) 18} And the fruit of righteousness^[a] is sown in peace by those who make peace.^(B)
