²¹ and since we have a great priest over the house of God,^(A)

¹⁷ Therefore he had to become like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make a sacrifice of atonement for the sins of the people.^(A)

Mediator of a Better Covenant

8 Now the main point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,^(A)

²⁰ where Jesus, a forerunner on our behalf, has entered, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.^(A)

Jesus the Great High Priest

¹⁴ Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.^{(A) 15} For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested^[a] as we are, yet without sin.^{(B) 16} Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

²⁶ For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.^(A)

Moses a Servant, Christ a Son

3 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,^(A)

³ Yet Jesus^[a] is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.^{(A) 4} (For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.)^{(B) 5} Now Moses was faithful in all God’s^[b] house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later.^{(C) 6} Christ, however, was faithful over God’s^[c] house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm^[d] the boldness and the pride inspired by hope.^(D)

¹⁹ So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God,^{(A) 20} built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone;^{[a](B) 21} in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord,^{(C) 22} in whom you also are built together spiritually^[b] into a dwelling place for God.
