The Prophet’s Prayer
3 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on [a]Shigionoth.
2 O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid;
O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years!
In the midst of the years make it known;
In wrath remember mercy.
3 God came from Teman,
The Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah
His glory covered the heavens,
And the earth was full of His praise.
4 His brightness was like the light;
He had rays flashing from His hand,
And there His power was hidden.
5 Before Him went pestilence,
And fever followed at His feet.
6 He stood and measured the earth;
He looked and startled the nations.
(A)And the everlasting mountains were scattered,
The perpetual hills bowed.
His ways are everlasting.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction;
The curtains of the land of Midian trembled.
8 O Lord, were You displeased with the rivers,
Was Your anger against the rivers,
Was Your wrath against the sea,
That You rode on Your horses,
Your chariots of salvation?
9 Your bow was made quite ready;
Oaths were sworn over Your [b]arrows. Selah
You divided the earth with rivers.
10 The mountains saw You and trembled;
The overflowing of the water passed by.
The deep uttered its voice,
And (B)lifted its hands on high.
11 The (C)sun and moon stood still in their habitation;
At the light of Your arrows they went,
At the shining of Your glittering spear.
12 You marched through the land in indignation;
You [c]trampled the nations in anger.
13 You went forth for the salvation of Your people,
For salvation with Your Anointed.
You struck the head from the house of the wicked,
By laying bare from foundation to neck. Selah
14 You thrust through with his own arrows
The head of his villages.
They came out like a whirlwind to scatter me;
Their rejoicing was like feasting on the poor in secret.
15 (D)You walked through the sea with Your horses,
Through the heap of great waters.
16 When I heard, (E)my body trembled;
My lips quivered at the voice;
Rottenness entered my bones;
And I trembled in myself,
That I might rest in the day of trouble.
When he comes up to the people,
He will invade them with his troops.

17 Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
18 Yet I will (F)rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 [d]The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like (G)deer’s feet,
And He will make me (H)walk on my high hills.

3 Молитвата на пророк Авакума, по Оплакванията.
2 Господи, чух вестта за Тебе, и се убоях. Господи, оживявай делото си всред годините, Всред годините го изявявай. В гнева си помни милостта.
3 Бог дойде от Теман, И Светият от хълма Фаран. (Села.) Славата му покри небето, И земята бе пълна с хваление към Него.
4 Сиянието му бе като светлината; Лъчи се издаваха из страната му; И там бе скривалището на силата му.
5 Пред него вървеше морът, И мълнии излизаха под нозете му.
6 Той застана и разклати земята, Погледна и направи народите да треперят; И вечните планини се разпаднаха, Безконечните гори се наведоха; Постъпките му бяха като в древността.
7 Видях шатрите на Етиопия наскърбени; Поклатиха се завесите на Мадиамската земя.
8 Негодува ли Господ против реките? Беше ли гневът Ти против реките, Беше ли гневът Ти против морето, Та си възседнал на конете си И на колесниците си, за да избавяш?
9 Лъкът Ти биде изваден от покривката си, Както Ти с клетва извести на племената. (Села.) Ти проряза земята с реки.
10 Видяха Те планините и се убояха; Водният потоп нападна; Бездната издаде гласа си, Вдигна ръцете си нависоко.
11 Слънцето и луната застанаха в жилището си При виделината на твоите летящи стрели, При сиянието на блестящото ти копие.
12 С негодувание си преминал земята, С гняв си вършеял народите.
13 Излязъл си за изблавление на людете си, За избавление чрез помазаника си; Отсякъл си началника от дома на нечестивите, Открил си основите дори до върха. (Села.)
14 Пронизал си със собствените му копия главата на военните му, Които като вихрушка се устремиха да ме разбият, И чиято радост бе като че ли да ядят скришно сиромаха.
15 С конете си преминал си морето, Натрупаните много води.
16 Чух, и вътрешностите ми се смутиха, Устните ми трепереха от гласа, Гнилота прониква в костите ми, И на мястото си се разтреперах; Защото трябва да чакам тихо скръбния ден, Когато възлезе против людете Оня, който ще се опълчи против тях.
17 Защото, ако и да не цъфти смоковницата, Нито да има плод по лозите, Трудът на маслината да се осуети, И нивите да не дадат храна, Стадото да се отсече от оградата, И да няма говеда в оборите,
18 Пак аз ще се веселя в Господа, Ще се радвам в Бога на спасението си.
19 Иеова Господ е силата ми; Той прави нозете ми като нозете на елените, И ще ме направи да ходя по височините си. За първия певец върху струнните ми инструменти.

3 This is the prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on shigionoth.
2 Lord, I have heard the news about you;
I am amazed at what you have done.
Lord, do great things once again in our time;
make those things happen again in our own days.
Even when you are angry,
remember to be kind.
3 God is coming from Teman;
the Holy One comes from Mount Paran.[a] Selah
His glory covers the skies,
and his praise fills the earth.
4 He is like a bright light.
Rays of light shine from his hand,
and there he hides his power.
5 Sickness goes before him,
and disease follows behind him.
6 He stands and shakes the earth.
He looks, and the nations shake with fear.
The mountains, which stood for ages, break into pieces;
the old hills fall down.
God has always done this.
7 I saw that the tents of Cushan were in trouble
and that the tents of Midian trembled.
8 Lord, were you angry at the rivers,
or were you angry at the streams?
Were you angry with the sea
when you rode your horses and chariots of victory?[b]
9 You uncovered your bow
and commanded many arrows to be brought to you. Selah
You split the earth with rivers.
10 The mountains saw you and shook with fear.
The rushing water flowed.
The sea made a loud noise,
and its waves rose high.
11 The sun and moon stood still in the sky;
they stopped when they saw the flash of your flying arrows
and the gleam of your shining spear.
12 In anger you marched on the earth;
in anger you punished the nations.
13 You came out to save your people,
to save your chosen one.
You crushed the leader of the wicked ones
and took everything he had, from head to toe. Selah
14 With the enemy’s own spear you stabbed the leader of his army.
His soldiers rushed out like a storm to scatter us.
They were happy
as they were robbing the poor people in secret.
15 But you marched through the sea with your horses,
stirring the great waters.
16 I hear these things, and my body trembles;
my lips tremble when I hear the sound.
My bones feel weak,
and my legs shake.
But I will wait patiently for the day of disaster
that will come to the people who attack us.
17 Fig trees may not grow figs,
and there may be no grapes on the vines.
There may be no olives growing
and no food growing in the fields.
There may be no sheep in the pens
and no cattle in the barns.
18 But I will still be glad in the Lord;
I will rejoice in God my Savior.
19 The Lord God is my strength.
He makes me like a deer that does not stumble
so I can walk on the steep mountains.

I stand in awe(C) of your deeds, Lord.(D)
Repeat(E) them in our day,
in our time make them known;
in wrath remember mercy.(F)
3 God came from Teman,(G)

His glory covered the heavens(J)
and his praise filled the earth.(K)
4 His splendor was like the sunrise;(L)
rays flashed from his hand,
where his power(M) was hidden.
5 Plague(N) went before him;
pestilence followed his steps.
6 He stood, and shook the earth;
he looked, and made the nations tremble.
The ancient mountains crumbled(O)
and the age-old hills(P) collapsed(Q)—
but he marches on forever.(R)
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in distress,
the dwellings of Midian(S) in anguish.(T)
8 Were you angry with the rivers,(U) Lord?
Was your wrath against the streams?
Did you rage against the sea(V)
when you rode your horses
and your chariots to victory?(W)
9 You uncovered your bow,
you called for many arrows.(X)
You split the earth with rivers;
10 the mountains saw you and writhed.(Y)
Torrents of water swept by;
the deep roared(Z)
and lifted its waves(AA) on high.
11 Sun and moon stood still(AB) in the heavens
at the glint of your flying arrows,(AC)
at the lightning(AD) of your flashing spear.
12 In wrath you strode through the earth
and in anger you threshed(AE) the nations.
13 You came out(AF) to deliver(AG) your people,
to save your anointed(AH) one.
You crushed(AI) the leader of the land of wickedness,
you stripped him from head to foot.
14 With his own spear you pierced his head
when his warriors stormed out to scatter us,(AJ)
gloating as though about to devour
the wretched(AK) who were in hiding.
15 You trampled the sea(AL) with your horses,
churning the great waters.(AM)
16 I heard and my heart pounded,
my lips quivered at the sound;
decay crept into my bones,
and my legs trembled.(AN)
Yet I will wait patiently(AO) for the day of calamity
to come on the nation invading us.
17 Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,(AP)
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,(AQ)
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,(AR)
I will be joyful in God my Savior.(AS)
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;(AT)
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.(AU)
