3 Rugăciunea profetului Habacuc. De cântat precum un şighionot.[a]
2 – Doamne, am auzit de faima Ta!
Lucrările Tale, Doamne, îmi inspiră teamă!
Lucrează şi în cursul acestor ani[b]!
Fă-le cunoscute şi odată cu trecerea acestor ani[c]!
Dar, la mânie, adu-Ţi aminte de îndurare!
3 Dumnezeu vine[d] din Teman
şi Cel Sfânt – din muntele Paran.Sela[e]
Splendoarea Lui acoperă cerurile,
iar lauda Lui umple pământul.
4 Strălucirea Lui este ca lumina
şi din mâna Lui ies raze;
acolo îi este ascunsă puterea.
5 Înaintea Lui merge molima,
iar flacăra calcă pe urmele Sale.
6 El se opreşte şi măsoară[f] pământul;
se uită şi face popoarele să tremure.
Munţii cei trainici se sfărâmă,
iar dealurile cele vechi se pleacă.
Cărările Lui sunt veşnice.
7 Am văzut corturile lui Cuşan în necaz
şi colibele ţării lui Midian[g] tremurând.
8 S-a înfuriat oare Domnul pe râuri?
Împotriva râurilor se arată mânia Ta?
Împotriva mării s-a aprins furia Ta,
de ai încălecat pe caii Tăi
şi Te-ai suit în carul Tău de biruinţă?
9 Arcul Îţi este dezvelit,
iar săgeţile se află sub jurământ, la dispoziţia poruncii Tale.[h]Sela
Tu despici pământul prin râuri.
10 Munţii Te-au văzut şi s-au cutremurat.
Potopul de ape s-a revărsat,
iar adâncul şi-a făcut auzit glasul
şi şi-a înălţat valurile.
11 Soarele şi luna s-au oprit în înălţimi
la sclipirea săgeţilor Tale care pornesc,
la strălucirea lăncii Tale scânteietoare.
12 Tu străbaţi pământul cu indignare
şi treieri neamurile cu mânie.
13 Ai ieşit ca să-Ţi eliberezi poporul,
ca să-l izbăveşti pe unsul Tău.
Tu ai zdrobit căpetenia din casa[i] răutăţii,
l-ai dezbrăcat din cap până-n picioare!Sela
14 I-ai străpuns capul cu propriile-i săgeţi,
atunci când războinicii lui[j] s-au dezlănţuit ca să ne împrăştie!
Bucuria lor a fost atunci
ca a celor ce-l devorează pe sărac fără să ştie nimeni[k].
15 Tu păşeşti pe mare cu caii Tăi,
agitând apele cele mari.
16 Când am auzit, mi s-a cutremurat trupul!
La vestea aceasta, mi-au fremătat buzele!
Mi-a intrat putrezirea în oase
şi am început să tremur din genunchi!
Totuşi voi aştepta liniştit ziua necazului
ce se va abate peste poporul care ne va ataca.
17 Chiar dacă smochinul nu înfloreşte
şi în vii nu mai este rod,
chiar dacă lipseşte rodul din măslin
şi ogoarele nu mai dau hrană,
chiar dacă turma din ţarc este nimicită
şi nu mai sunt vite în grajduri,
18 eu tot mă voi bucura în Domnul
şi mă voi veseli în Dumnezeul mântuirii mele!
19 Domnul, Stăpânul, este tăria mea!
El îmi face picioarele ca ale căprioarelor
şi mă face să păşesc pe înălţimile mele.
Pentru dirijor. De cântat cu instrumentele mele cu corzi.

3 This is the prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to shigionoth.[a]
2 O Lord, I have heard the report about you,
and I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
In the midst of our years revive those deeds.
In the midst of our years reveal them again.
In your rage, remember to have mercy.
3 God comes from Teman. Interlude[b]
The Holy One comes from Mount Paran.
His splendor covers the heavens,
and his praises fill the earth.
4 His brightness is like lightning.
Lightning bolts flash out from his hand,[c]
where his strength is hidden.
5 Contagious disease goes ahead of him,
and plague follows after him.
6 He stands up and shakes[d] the earth.
He looks, and the nations jump in fright.
The ancient mountains are shattered.
The age-old hills are flattened.
But he goes on forever.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan overwhelmed by trouble.
The tent curtains in the land of Midian were trembling.
8 Were you angry with the rivers, Lord?
Was your anger against the rivers?
Or was your fury against the sea?
Is that why you hitched up your horses
and rode your chariots of salvation?
9 You unsheathed your bow Interlude
and called for arrows.
You split the earth with rivers.
10 When the mountains see you, they shake.
A flood of water sweeps through.
The great deep roars
and lifts its hands high.
11 The sun and the moon stand still in their palace
when your flying arrows flash,
when your spear is bright as lightning.
12 In fury you march through the earth.
In anger you trample the nations.
13 You march out to save your people,
to deliver your anointed one.
You strike the head of the wicked nation to lay him out Interlude
naked from his buttocks to his neck.[e]
14 With their own shafts you pierce the heads of warriors
when they storm out to scatter us.
Their celebration is like that of those who devour the poor in secret,
15 but you trample on the sea with your horses,
on the surging, powerful waters.
16 When I hear about it, my stomach churns.
The sound makes my lips quiver.
My bones decay,
and my knees tremble,
as I wait for the day of disaster to come upon the people who attack us.
17 The fig tree may have no buds.
The vines may have no grapes.
The olive tree may fail to produce.
The fields may yield no food.
The sheep may be cut off from their flock,
and there may be no cattle in the barns,
18 but I will delight in the Lord
and rejoice in God who saves me.
19 The Lord God is my strength.
He will give me feet like a deer
and make me leap along the high hills.

3 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
2 O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
3 God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
4 And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.
5 Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
6 He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.
7 I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
8 Was the Lord displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?
9 Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
10 The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.
11 The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
12 Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.
13 Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
14 Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
15 Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters.
16 When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

rays flashed from his hand,

and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails

though there are no sheep in the pen

18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,(AR)
I will be joyful in God my Savior.(AS)
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;(AT)
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
