5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that (A)every intent of the thoughts of [a]their hearts was only evil continually. 6 So (B)the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was (C)grieved [b]in His heart. 7 Then the Lord said, “(D)I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For (E)I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But (F)Noah (G)found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

God Decides to Destroy the World
5 The Lord saw that human evil was growing more and more throughout the earth, with every inclination of people’s thoughts[a] becoming only evil on a continuous basis. 6 Then the Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and he was deeply grieved about that.[b] 7 So the Lord said, “I will annihilate these human beings whom I’ve created from the[c] earth, including people, animals, crawling things, and flying creatures, because I’m grieving that I made them.” 8 However, the Lord was pleased with Noah.
