Noah and the Flood

This is the account(A) of Noah and his family.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless(B) among the people of his time,(C) and he walked faithfully with God.(D) 10 Noah had three sons: Shem,(E) Ham and Japheth.(F)

11 Now the earth was corrupt(G) in God’s sight and was full of violence.(H) 12 God saw how corrupt(I) the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways.(J) 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy(K) both them and the earth.(L) 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress[a] wood;(M) make rooms in it and coat it with pitch(N) inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.[b] 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit[c] high all around.[d] Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters(O) on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.(P) 18 But I will establish my covenant with you,(Q) and you will enter the ark(R)—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you.(S) 20 Two(T) of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind(U) of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive.(V) 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.”

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.(W)

15 And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.

17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.

18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.

20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.

21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.

22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

Noah Pleases God

11 The earth also was corrupt (D)before God, and the earth was (E)filled with violence. 12 So God (F)looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for (G)all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

The Ark Prepared(H)

13 And God said to Noah, (I)“The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; (J)and behold, (K)I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make [b]rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. 15 And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred [c]cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 (L)And behold, I Myself am bringing (M)floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall (N)die. 18 But I will establish My (O)covenant with you; and (P)you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring (Q)two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind (R)will come to you to keep them alive. 21 And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”

22 (S)Thus Noah did; (T)according to all that (U)God commanded him, so he did.

13 Then God said to Noah, “(G)The end of [c]humanity has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of [d]people; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. 14 Make for yourself an ark of [e]gopher wood; you shall make the ark with compartments, and [f]cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you shall make it: the length of the ark shall be [g]three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. 16 You shall make a [h]window for the ark, and finish it to a [i]cubit from [j]the top; and put the door of the ark on the side; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 Now behold, (H)I Myself am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which there is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on the earth shall perish. 18 But I will establish (I)My covenant with you; and (J)you shall enter the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 (K)And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. 20 (L)Of the birds according to their kind, and of the animals according to their kind, of every crawling thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. 21 As for you, take for yourself some of every (M)food that is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and them.” 22 (N)So Noah did these things; according to everything that God had commanded him, so he did.
