The Offering of Isaac
22 Now it happened after these things, that (A)God tested Abraham and said to him, “(B)Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now (C)your son, your only one, whom you love, Isaac, and (D)go forth to the land of (E)Moriah, and offer him there as a (F)burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son; and he split wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from a distance. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there; and we will worship, and we will return to you.” 6 Then Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and (G)put it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.
7 Then Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the (H)lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 And Abraham said, “God will [a]provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.
9 Then they came to (I)the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built (J)the altar there and arranged the wood and bound his son Isaac and (K)put him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But (L)the angel of Yahweh called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the boy, and do nothing to him; for now (M)I know that you [b]fear God, since you have not withheld (N)your son, your only one, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there was a ram after it had been caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of that place [c]Yahweh Will Provide, as it is said this day, “In the mount of Yahweh (O)it will [d]be provided.”
15 Then the angel of Yahweh called to Abraham a second time from heaven, 16 and said, “(P)By Myself I have sworn, declares Yahweh, because you have done this thing and have not spared your son, your only one, 17 indeed I will greatly bless you, and I will greatly (Q)multiply your seed as the stars of the heavens and as (R)the sand which is on the seashore; and (S)your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. 18 (T)In your [e]seed all the nations of the earth shall [f]be blessed, because you have (U)listened to My voice.” 19 (V)So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and walked together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived at Beersheba.
20 Now it happened after these things, that it was told to Abraham, saying, “Behold, (W)Milcah [g]also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram 22 and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel.” 23 And Bethuel [h]was the father of (X)Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, [i]also bore Tebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.

Genesis 22
Revised Geneva Translation
22 And after these things God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham.” Who answered, “Here I am.”
2 And He said, “Take now your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and get to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will show you.”
3 Then Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him and Isaac, his son. And he split wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went to the place which God had told him.
4 Then, the third day, Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from a distance,
5 and said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey. The child and I will go yonder and worship and return to you.”
6 Then Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac, his son. And he took the fire in his hand and the knife. And they both went together.
7 Then Isaac spoke to Abraham, his father, and said, “My father.” And he answered, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
8 Then Abraham answered, “My son, God will provide a lamb for a burnt offering.” So, they both went together.
9 And when they came to the place which God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there. And he arranged the wood and bound Isaac, his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
10 And Abraham, stretching forth his hand, took the knife to kill his son.
11 But the Angel of the LORD called to him from Heaven, saying, “Abraham! Abraham!” And he answered, “Here I am.”
12 Then he said, “Do not lay your hand upon the child, nor do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not spared your only son for My sake.”
13 And Abraham, lifting up his eyes, looked. And behold, there was a ram behind him, caught by the horns in a bush. Then Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place, Jehovah Jireh (as it is said this day, “On the mount will the LORD be seen.”).
15 And the Angel of the LORD cried to Abraham from Heaven a second time,
16 and said, “I have sworn by Myself (says the LORD) because you have done this thing and have not spared your only son.
17 “Therefore, I will surely bless you, and will greatly multiply your seed, as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the seashore. And your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.
18 “And in your seed shall all the nations of the Earth be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”
19 Then Abraham returned to his servants; and they rose up and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
20 And after these things, one told Abraham, saying, “Behold Milcah. She has also born children to your brother, Nahor:
21 Huz, his eldest son, and Buz, his brother, and Kemuel, the father of Aram,
22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
23 And Bethuel begat Rebekah. These eight did Milcah bear to Nahor, Abraham’s brother.
24 And his concubine (called Reumah) also bore Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash and Maachah.

Abraham’s Faith Confirmed(A)
22 Now it came to pass after these things that (B)God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!”
And he said, “Here I am.”
2 Then He said, “Take now your son, (C)your only son Isaac, whom you (D)love, and go (E)to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a (F)burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. 5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the [a]lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will (G)come back to you.”
6 So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and (H)laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together. 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the [b]lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the (I)lamb for a (J)burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and (K)laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
11 But the (L)Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”
So he said, “Here I am.”
12 And He said, (M)“Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for (N)now I know that you fear God, since you have not (O)withheld your son, your only son, from Me.”
13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, [c]The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
15 Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: (P)“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will (Q)bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants (R)as the stars of the heaven (S)and as the sand which is on the seashore; and (T)your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 (U)In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, (V)because you have obeyed My voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to (W)Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.
The Family of Nahor
20 Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed (X)Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: 21 (Y)Huz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father (Z)of Aram, 22 Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” 23 And (AA)Bethuel begot [d]Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. 24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah, Gaham, Thahash, and Maachah.
