⁸ And the Lord God planted a ^(A)garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

²² Then the Lord God said, ^(A)“Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand ^(B)and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—” ²³ therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden ^(C)to work the ground from which he was taken.

¹⁶ Then Cain went away from the presence of the Lord and settled in the land of Nod,^[a] east of Eden.

The Tower of Babel

11 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. ² And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in ^(A)the land of Shinar and settled there.

⁹ Therefore its name was called ^(A)Babel, because there the Lord confused^[a] the language of all the earth. And from there the Lord dispersed them over the face of all the earth.
