The Call of Abram
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household(A) to the land(B) I will show you.(C)
2 “I will make you into a great nation,(D)
and I will bless you;(E)
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a](F)
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;(G)
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.(H)”[b]
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot(I) went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old(J) when he set out from Harran.(K) 5 He took his wife Sarai,(L) his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated(M) and the people(N) they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan,(O) and they arrived there.
6 Abram traveled through the land(P) as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh(Q) at Shechem.(R) At that time the Canaanites(S) were in the land. 7 The Lord appeared to Abram(T) and said, “To your offspring[c] I will give this land.(U)”(V) So he built an altar there to the Lord,(W) who had appeared to him.
8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel(X) and pitched his tent,(Y) with Bethel on the west and Ai(Z) on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.(AA)
9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.(AB)
Abram in Egypt(AC)
10 Now there was a famine in the land,(AD) and Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the famine was severe.(AE) 11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai,(AF) “I know what a beautiful woman(AG) you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister,(AH) so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”
14 When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw that Sarai was a very beautiful woman.(AI) 15 And when Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace. 16 He treated Abram well for her sake, and Abram acquired sheep and cattle, male and female donkeys, male and female servants, and camels.(AJ)
17 But the Lord inflicted(AK) serious diseases on Pharaoh and his household(AL) because of Abram’s wife Sarai. 18 So Pharaoh summoned Abram. “What have you done to me?”(AM) he said. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?(AN) 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’(AO) so that I took her to be my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and go!” 20 Then Pharaoh gave orders about Abram to his men, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and everything he had.

12 Unya, miingon ang Ginoo kang Abram, “Biyai ang imong nasod, ang imong mga kaparyentehan, ug ang panimalay sa imong amahan, ug adto sa dapit nga ipakita ko kanimo. 2 Himuon ko ang imong mga kaliwat nga usa ka bantogan nga nasod. Panalanginan ko ikaw ug mahimong bantogan ang imong ngalan. Pinaagi kanimo, daghan ang makadawat sa panalangin. 3 Panalanginan ko ang nagapanalangin kanimo. Apan tunglohon ko ang nagatunglo kanimo. Pinaagi kanimo, panalanginan ko ang tanang katawhan sa kalibotan.”
4-5 Busa mibiya si Abram sa Haran ug miadto sa Canaan, sumala sa giingon sa Ginoo kaniya. Nagaedad niadto si Abram ug 75 ka tuig. Miuban kaniya ang iyang pag-umangkon nga si Lot. Gidala usab niya ang iyang asawa nga si Sarai ug ang tanan nilang mga kabtangan ug mga sulugoon nga natigom nila sa Haran.
6 Pag-abot nila sa Canaan, mipadayon sila hangtod nga nakaabot sila sa dakong kahoy[a] sa More didto sa Shekem. (Niadtong panahona didto pa nagapuyo ang mga Canaanhon.) 7 Unya nagapakita ang Ginoo kang Abram ug miingon kaniya, “Ihatag ko sa imong mga kaliwat[b] kining yutaa.” Busa nagabuhat si Abram ug halaran alang sa Ginoo nga mipakita kaniya. 8 Gikan didto, mibalhin sila sa kabungtoran sa sidlakang[c] bahin sa Betel, ug didto nagapatindog sila ug tolda, sa tunga-tunga sa Betel ug Ai, Ang Betel anaa sa kasadpan[d] ug ang Ai sa sidlakan. Nagbuhat usab didto si Abram ug halaran ug misimba sa Ginoo. 9 Wala madugay namalhin na usab sila. Nagpadayon sila sa paglakaw paingon sa Negev.
Miadto si Abram sa Ehipto
10 Unya, miabot ang dakong kagutom sa Canaan, busa miadto si Abram sa Ehipto aron didto lang una mopuyo. 11 Sa nagakaduol na sila sa Ehipto, miingon si Abram sa iyang asawa, “Sarai, maanyag ka nga babaye. 12 Kon makita ka sa mga Ehiptohanon moingon sila, ‘Iya kining asawa.’ Unya, patyon nila ako ug ikaw dili. 13 Busa ingna sila nga managsoon kita aron dili nila ako patyon ug hatagan nila akog maayong pagtagad tungod kanimo.”
14 Busa pag-abot nila sa Ehipto, nakita tuod sa mga Ehiptohanon nga labihan gayod kaanyag ni Sarai. 15 Ug sa dihang nakita siya sa mga opisyal sa hari,[e] gisuginlan nila ang hari kon unsa siya katahom. Busa gidala si Sarai didto sa palasyo. 16 Tungod kang Sarai, maayo gayod ang pagtagad sa hari kang Abram ug gihatagan pa siya ug mga karnero, kanding, baka, asno, kamelyo, ug mga sulugoon nga lalaki ug babaye.
17 Apan gihatagan sa Ginoo ug mangilngig nga sakit ang hari ug ang iyang mga sakop sa palasyo tungod kang Sarai. 18 Sa dihang nasayran sa hari ang hinungdan, gipatawag niya si Abram ug gipangutana, “Unsa kining gibuhat mo kanako? Nganong wala ka magsulti nga asawa mo diay siya? 19 Nganong miingon ka nga managsoon kamo? Gikuha ko hinuon siya aron mahimong asawa. Ania ang imong asawa, kuhaa siya ug panglakaw na kamo!” 20 Unya gimandoan sa hari ang iyang mga tawo nga papahawaon sila. Busa gipabiya nila si Abram niadtong dapita uban sa iyang asawa, dala ang tanan niyang kabtangan.

Ang Pagtawag ng Dios kay Abram
12 Ngayon, sinabi ng Panginoon kay Abram, “Lisanin mo ang iyong bansa, ang mga kamag-anak mo, at kahit ang sambahayan ng iyong ama, at pumunta ka sa lugar na ipapakita ko sa iyo.
2 Gagawin kong isang tanyag na bansa ang lahi mo.
Pagpapalain kita at magiging tanyag ang iyong pangalan.
Sa pamamagitan mo, marami ang pagpapalain.
3 Pagpapalain ko ang magmamagandang loob sa iyo.
Pero isusumpa ko naman ang susumpa sa iyo.
Sa pamamagitan mo, pagpapalain ko ang lahat ng tao sa mundo.”
4-5 Kaya umalis si Abram sa Haran at pumunta sa Canaan, ayon sa sinabi ng Panginoon sa kanya. Nasa 75 taong gulang noon si Abram. Sumama sa kanya ang pamangkin niyang si Lot. Kasama rin niya ang asawa niyang si Sarai at ang lahat ng ari-arian at aliping natipon nila sa Haran.
6 Pagdating nila sa Canaan, nagpatuloy sila hanggang sa nakarating sa malaking puno[a] ng Moreh roon sa Shekem. (Nang panahong iyon, naroon pa ang mga Cananeo). 7 Pagkatapos, nagpakita ang Panginoon kay Abram at sinabi sa kanya, “Ang lupaing ito ay ibibigay ko sa mga lahi mo.” Kaya gumawa ng altar si Abram para sa Panginoon.
8 Mula roon, lumipat sila sa bundok na nasa silangan ng Betel, at doon sila nagtayo ng tolda, sa kalagitnaan ng Betel at Ai. Ang Betel ay nasa kanluran at ang Ai naman ay nasa silangan. Gumawa rin doon si Abram ng altar at sumamba sa Panginoon. 9 Hindi nagtagal, muli silang lumipat. Nagpatuloy sila sa paglalakbay papunta sa Negev.
Pumunta si Abram sa Egipto
10 Ngayon, nagkaroon ng matinding taggutom sa Canaan, kaya pumunta si Abram sa Egipto para roon muna manirahan. 11 Nang paparating na sila sa Egipto, sinabi ni Abram sa kanyang asawa, “Sarai, maganda kang babae. 12 Kapag nakita ka ng mga Egipcio, sasabihin nila na asawa kita, kaya papatayin nila ako para makuha ka nila. 13 Mabuti sigurong sabihin mo sa kanila na magkapatid tayo para hindi nila ako patayin at para maging mabuti ang pakikitungo nila sa akin dahil sa iyo.”
14 Kaya pagdating nila sa Egipto, nakita nga ng mga Egipcio ang kagandahan ni Sarai. 15 At nang makita siya ng mga opisyal ng Faraon,[b] sinabi nila sa hari kung gaano siya kaganda. Kaya dinala si Sarai roon sa palasyo. 16 Dahil kay Sarai, naging mabuti ang pakikitungo ng hari kay Abram at binigyan pa siya ng mga tupa, kambing, baka, asno, kamelyo at mga alipin.
17 Pero binigyan ng Panginoon ng nakakakilabot na karamdaman ang Faraon at ang mga tauhan niya sa palasyo dahil kay Sarai. 18 Nang malaman ng Faraon ang dahilan ng lahat ng ito, ipinatawag niya si Abram at tinanong, “Ano ba itong ginawa mo sa akin? Bakit hindi mo sinabi na asawa mo pala siya? 19 Bakit mo sinabing magkapatid kayo? Kaya kinuha ko siya para maging asawa ko. Ngayon, heto ang asawa mo, kunin mo siya at umalis na kayo!” 20 Pagkatapos, nag-utos ang Faraon sa mga tauhan niya na paalisin na sila. Kaya dinala nila si Abram palabas ng lupain na iyon at pinaalis kasama ang asawa niya at ang lahat ng ari-arian niya.

12 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4 So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7 And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.
8 And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
9 And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17 And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
18 And Pharaoh called Abram and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19 Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
