²⁹ Then God said, “Behold, ^(A)I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the ^[a]surface of all the earth, and every tree ^[b]which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;

¹⁴ Behold, You have ^(A)driven me this day from the face of the ground; and I will be hidden from Your face, and ^(B)I will be a wanderer and a drifter on the earth, and ^(C)whoever finds me will kill me.”

The Corruption of Mankind

6 Now it came about, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them,

⁷ Then the Lord said, “^(A)I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For ^(B)I am sorry that I have made them.”

³ also of the birds of the sky, ^[a]seven pairs, male and female, to keep their ^[b]offspring alive on the face of all the earth. ⁴ For after ^(A)seven more days, I will send rain on the earth for ^(B)forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe out from the face of the land ^(C)every living thing that I have made.”

⁵ And the water decreased steadily until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains became visible.

⁸ So the Lord ^(A)scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth; and they stopped building the city.

⁹ Therefore it was named ^[a](A)Babel, because there the Lord confused the ^[b]language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

⁵⁶ When the famine was spread over the entire face of the earth, then Joseph opened all ^[a]the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians; and the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.
