⁷ Meanwhile, Jacob’s sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. They were shocked^(A) and furious,^(B) because Shechem had done an outrageous thing in^[a] Israel^(C) by sleeping with Jacob’s daughter—a thing that should not be done.^(D)

²¹ she shall be brought to the door of her father’s house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death. She has done an outrageous thing^(A) in Israel by being promiscuous while still in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from among you.

²³ The owner of the house went outside^(A) and said to them, “No, my friends, don’t be so vile. Since this man is my guest, don’t do this outrageous thing.^{(B) 24} Look, here is my virgin daughter,^(C) and his concubine. I will bring them out to you now, and you can use them and do to them whatever you wish. But as for this man, don’t do such an outrageous thing.”

⁶ I took my concubine, cut her into pieces and sent one piece to each region of Israel’s inheritance,^(A) because they committed this lewd and outrageous act^(B) in Israel.
