24 Now Abraham was old, well advanced in years. And the Lord (A)had blessed Abraham in all things. And Abraham said to his servant, (B)the oldest of his household, who had charge of all that he had, (C)“Put your hand under my thigh, that I may make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and God of the earth, that (D)you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell, (E)but will go to my country and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”

Isaac and Rebekah

24 Abraham was now very old,(A) and the Lord had blessed(B) him in every way.(C) He said to the senior servant(D) in his household, the one in charge of all that he had,(E) “Put your hand under my thigh.(F) I want you to swear(G) by the Lord, the God of heaven(H) and the God of earth,(I) that you will not get a wife for my son(J) from the daughters of the Canaanites,(K) among whom I am living,(L) but will go to my country and my own relatives(M) and get a wife for my son Isaac.(N)

Abraham said to him, “See to it that you do not take my son back there. The Lord, the God of heaven, (A)who took me from my father's house and from the land of my kindred, and who spoke to me and swore to me, (B)‘To your offspring I will give this land,’ (C)he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. But if the woman is not willing to follow you, then (D)you will be free from this oath of mine; only you must not take my son back there.” So the servant (E)put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swore to him concerning this matter.

“Make sure that you do not take my son back there,”(A) Abraham said. “The Lord, the God of heaven,(B) who brought me out of my father’s household and my native land(C) and who spoke to me and promised me on oath, saying, ‘To your offspring[a](D) I will give this land’(E)—he will send his angel before you(F) so that you can get a wife for my son from there. If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath(G) of mine. Only do not take my son back there.”(H) So the servant put his hand under the thigh(I) of his master(J) Abraham and swore an oath to him concerning this matter.

Laban ran out toward the man, to the spring. 30 As soon as he saw the ring and the bracelets on his sister's arms, and heard the words of Rebekah his sister, “Thus the man spoke to me,” he went to the man. And behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring.

    thousands of ten thousands,
and (C)may your offspring possess
    the gate of those who hate him!”[a]

61 Then Rebekah and her young women arose and rode on the camels and followed the man. Thus the servant took Rebekah and went his way.

62 Now Isaac had returned from (D)Beer-lahai-roi and was dwelling in the Negeb. 63 And Isaac went out (E)to meditate in the field toward evening. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there were camels coming. 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel 65 and said to the servant, “Who is that man, walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took her veil and covered herself. 66 And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. 67 Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was (F)comforted after his mother's (G)death.

62 Now Isaac had come from Beer Lahai Roi,(L) for he was living in the Negev.(M) 63 He went out to the field one evening to meditate,[b](N) and as he looked up,(O) he saw camels approaching. 64 Rebekah also looked up and saw Isaac. She got down from her camel(P) 65 and asked the servant, “Who is that man in the field coming to meet us?”

“He is my master,” the servant answered. So she took her veil(Q) and covered herself.

66 Then the servant told Isaac all he had done. 67 Isaac brought her into the tent(R) of his mother Sarah,(S) and he married Rebekah.(T) So she became his wife, and he loved her;(U) and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.(V)
