²⁴ Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”^(A)

¹³ Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.^(A)

¹² Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves^(A) with compassion, kindness, humility,^(B) gentleness and patience.^{(C) 13} Bear with each other^(D) and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.^(E)

² then make my joy complete^(A) by being like-minded,^(B) having the same love, being one^(C) in spirit and of one mind. ³ Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.^(D) Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,^{(E) 4} not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.^(F)

⁵ In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:^(G)

³¹ Get rid of^(A) all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.^{(B) 32} Be kind and compassionate to one another,^(C) forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.^(D)

³⁴ “A new command^(A) I give you: Love one another.^(B) As I have loved you, so you must love one another.^{(C) 35} By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”^(D)

²¹ They said to one another, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother.^(A) We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress^(B) has come on us.”

²² Reuben replied, “Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy?^(C) But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting^(D) for his blood.”^(E)

²² “Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern^(A) here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.^(B)
