²⁷ And he inquired about their welfare and said, “Is your father well, the old man ^(A)of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?”

¹³ And they said, “We, your servants, are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan, and behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one ^(A)is no more.”

¹¹ We are all sons of one man. We are honest men. Your servants have never been spies.”

¹⁰ he sent his son ^(A)Hadoram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against ^(B)Hadadezer and defeated him; for ^(C)Hadadezer had often been at war with Tou. And he sent all sorts of articles of gold, of silver, and of bronze.

⁵ So David sent ten young men. And David said to the young men, “Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal and greet him in my name.

²² And David left the ^(A)things in charge of the keeper of the ^(B)baggage and ran to the ranks and went and greeted his brothers.

¹⁵ And they turned aside there and came to the house of the young Levite, at the home of Micah, and ^(A)asked him about his welfare.

⁷ Moses ^(A)went out to meet his father-in-law and bowed down and ^(B)kissed him. And they asked each other of their welfare and went into the tent.

⁷ They replied, “The man questioned us carefully about ourselves and our kindred, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Do you have another brother?’ What we told him was in answer to these questions. Could we in any way know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

¹⁶ Joseph answered Pharaoh, ^(A)“It is not in me; ^(B)God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.”^[a]
