⁸ So Esau dwelt in ^(A)Mount Seir. ^(B)Esau is Edom.

³ Then Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother ^(A)in the land of Seir, ^(B)the ^[a]country of Edom.

² “Son of man, set your face against ^(A)Mount Seir and ^(B)prophesy against it, ³ and say to it, ‘Thus says the Lord God:

^5 (D)“Because you have had an ^[b]ancient hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, ^(E)when their iniquity came to an end, ⁶ therefore, as I live,” says the Lord God, “I will prepare you for ^(F)blood, and blood shall pursue you; ^(G)since you have not hated ^[c]blood, therefore blood shall pursue you. ⁷ Thus I will make Mount Seir ^[d]most desolate, and cut off from it the ^(H)one who leaves and the one who returns.

²³ For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they ^[a]had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, ^(A)they helped to destroy one another.

¹⁰ And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You ^(A)would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but ^(B)they turned from them and did not destroy them—

⁴² Now some of them, five hundred men of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir, having as their captains Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

⁴ To Isaac I gave ^(A)Jacob and Esau. To ^(B)Esau I gave the mountains of Seir to possess, ^(C)but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

⁵ Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as one footstep, ^(A)because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
