² Isaac said, “I am now an old man and don’t know the day of my death.^(A)

¹⁴ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.^(A)

³⁵ “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.

¹⁰ Whatever^(A) your hand finds to do, do it with all your might,^(B) for in the realm of the dead,^(C) where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.^(D)

³ “Remember, Lord, how I have walked^(A) before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion^(B) and have done what is good in your eyes.^(C)” And Hezekiah wept^(D) bitterly.

Hezekiah’s Illness^(A)

38 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz^(B) went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order,^(C) because you are going to die; you will not recover.”^(D)

³ But David took an oath^(A) and said, “Your father knows very well that I have found favor in your eyes, and he has said to himself, ‘Jonathan must not know this or he will be grieved.’ Yet as surely as the Lord lives and as you live, there is only a step between me and death.”

²¹ Then Israel said to Joseph, “I am about to die, but God will be with you^[a](A) and take you^[b] back to the land of your^[c] fathers.^(B)
