¹⁸ Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; ^(A)I will make him a helper fit for^[a] him.”

⁷ For a man ought not to cover his head, since ^(A)he is the image and glory of God, but ^(B)woman is the glory of man. ⁸ For ^(C)man was not made from woman, but woman from man. ⁹ Neither was man created for woman, but ^(D)woman for man. ¹⁰ That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.^{[a] 11} Nevertheless, ^(E)in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; ¹² for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And ^(F)all things are from God.

⁹ Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. ¹⁰ For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! ¹¹ Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, ^(A)but how can one keep warm alone? ¹² And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

⁷ Likewise, ^(A)husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker ^(B)vessel, since they are heirs with you^[a] of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

¹¹ Let a woman learn quietly ^(A)with all submissiveness. ^12 (B)I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. ^13 (C)For Adam was formed first, ^(D)then Eve;

³⁶ If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed,^[a] if his^[b] passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry—it is no sin.
