¹⁶ And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,

²² And Samuel said,

⁴ For ^(A)everything created by God is good, and ^(B)nothing is to be rejected if it is ^(C)received with thanksgiving,

¹⁷ As for the rich in ^(A)this present age, charge them ^(B)not to be haughty, nor ^(C)to set their hopes on ^(D)the uncertainty of riches, but on God, ^(E)who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

⁹ And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. ^(A)The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, ^(B)and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The Fall

3 Now ^(A)the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You^[a] shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” ² And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden,
