⁶ I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make ^(A)nations of you, and ^(B)kings shall come from you.

⁴ “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be ^(A)a father of ^[a]many nations.

⁶ and ^(A)Jesse begot David the king.

^(B)David the king begot Solomon by her ^[a]who had been the wife of Uriah. ^7 (C)Solomon begot Rehoboam, Rehoboam begot ^(D)Abijah, and Abijah begot ^[b]Asa. ⁸ Asa begot ^(E)Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot ^(F)Uzziah. ⁹ Uzziah begot Jotham, Jotham begot ^(G)Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah. ^10 (H)Hezekiah begot Manasseh, Manasseh begot ^[c]Amon, and Amon begot ^(I)Josiah. ^11 (J)Josiah begot ^[d]Jeconiah and his brothers about the time they were ^(K)carried away to Babylon.

¹² And after they were brought to Babylon, ^(L)Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot ^(M)Zerubbabel. ¹³ Zerubbabel begot Abiud, Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor. ¹⁴ Azor begot Zadok, Zadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud. ¹⁵ Eliud begot Eleazar, Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob. ¹⁶ And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of ^(N)Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.

¹⁷ So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.

¹¹ Also God said to him: ^(A)“I am God Almighty. ^(B)Be fruitful and multiply; ^(C)a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body.

¹⁶ And I will bless her ^(A)and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother ^(B)of nations; ^(C)kings of peoples shall be from her.”

The Kings of Edom

^31 (A)Now these were the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the children of Israel: ³² Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And when Bela died, Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. ³⁴ When Jobab died, Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. ³⁵ And when Husham died, Hadad the son of Bedad, who attacked Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ When Hadad died, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. ³⁷ And when Samlah died, Saul of ^(B)Rehoboth-by-the-River reigned in his place. ³⁸ When Saul died, Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. ³⁹ And when Baal-Hanan the son of Achbor died, ^[a]Hadar reigned in his place; and the name of his city was ^[b]Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

The Chiefs of Esau

⁴⁰ And these were the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families and their places, by their names: Chief Timnah, Chief ^[c]Alvah, Chief Jetheth, ⁴¹ Chief ^[d]Aholibamah, Chief Elah, Chief Pinon, ⁴² Chief Kenaz, Chief Teman, Chief Mibzar, ⁴³ Chief Magdiel, and Chief Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their dwelling places in the land of their possession. Esau was the father of ^[e]the Edomites.

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and ^(A)will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget ^(B)twelve princes, ^(C)and I will make him a great nation.
