¹⁶ In the fourth generation^(A) your descendants will come back here,^(B) for the sin of the Amorites^(C) has not yet reached its full measure.”

²⁶ He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites^(A) the Lord drove out before Israel.)

²³ “In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a fierce-looking king, a master of intrigue, will arise.

³² Go ahead, then, and complete^(A) what your ancestors started!^(B)

³³ “You snakes! You brood of vipers!^(C) How will you escape being condemned to hell?^{(D) 34} Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify;^(E) others you will flog in your synagogues^(F) and pursue from town to town.^{(G) 35} And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel^(H) to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah,^(I) whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.^(J)

⁴⁰ Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt^[a] was 430 years.^(A)

¹⁶ in their effort to keep us from speaking to the Gentiles^(A) so that they may be saved. In this way they always heap up their sins to the limit.^(B) The wrath of God has come upon them at last.^[a]

⁸ But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.^{(A) 9} The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,^(B) as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient^(C) with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.^(D)

The Woman in a Basket

⁵ Then the angel who was speaking to me came forward and said to me, “Look up and see what is appearing.”

⁶ I asked, “What is it?”

He replied, “It is a basket.^(A)” And he added, “This is the iniquity^[a] of the people throughout the land.”

⁷ Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman! ⁸ He said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed its lead cover down on it.^(B)

⁹ Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork,^(C) and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.

¹⁰ “Where are they taking the basket?” I asked the angel who was speaking to me.

¹¹ He replied, “To the country of Babylonia^[b](D) to build a house^(E) for it. When the house is ready, the basket will be set there in its place.”^(F)
