From Adam to Noah

5 This is the written account^(A) of Adam’s family line.^(B)

When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God.^{(C) 2} He created them^(D) male and female^(E) and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”^[a] when they were created.

¹⁰ For we are God’s handiwork,^(A) created^(B) in Christ Jesus to do good works,^(C) which God prepared in advance for us to do.

²⁴ and to put on^(A) the new self,^(B) created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.^(C)

²¹ So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep;^(A) and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs^[a] and then closed up the place with flesh. ²² Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib^[b](B) he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

²³ The man said,

²⁴ That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united^(F) to his wife, and they become one flesh.^(G)

²⁵ Adam and his wife were both naked,^(H) and they felt no shame.

⁷ A man ought not to cover his head,^[a] since he is the image^(A) and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. ⁸ For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;^{(B) 9} neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.^(C)
