Christian Liberty

5 ^(A)Stand^[a] fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a ^(B)yoke of bondage. ²Indeed I, Paul, say to you that ^(C)if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing. ³And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised ^(D)that he is ^[b]a debtor to keep the whole law. ⁴^(E)You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; ^(F)you have fallen from grace. ⁵For we through the Spirit eagerly ^(G)wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. ⁶For ^(H)in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but ^(I)faith working through love.

Love Fulfills the Law

⁷You ^(J)ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? ⁸This persuasion does not come from Him who calls you. ⁹^(K)A little leaven leavens the whole lump. ¹⁰I have confidence in you, in the Lord, that you will have no other mind; but he who troubles you shall bear his judgment, whoever he is.

¹¹And I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, ^(L)why do I still suffer persecution? Then ^(M)the offense of the cross has ceased. ¹²^(N)I could wish that those ^(O)who trouble you would even ^[c]cut themselves off!

¹³For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only ^(P)do not use liberty as an ^(Q)opportunity for the flesh, but ^(R)through love serve one another. ¹⁴For ^(S)all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: ^(T)“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” ¹⁵But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

Walking in the Spirit

¹⁶I say then: ^(U)Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. ¹⁷For ^(V)the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, ^(W)so that you do not do the things that you wish. ¹⁸But ^(X)if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

¹⁹Now ^(Y)the works of the flesh are evident, which are: ^[d]adultery, ^[e]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, ²⁰idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, ²¹envy, ^[f]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that ^(Z)those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

²²But ^(AA)the fruit of the Spirit is ^(AB)love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, ^(AC)goodness, ^(AD)faithfulness, ²³^[g]gentleness, self-control. ^(AE)Against such there is no law. ²⁴And those who are Christ’s ^(AF)have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. ²⁵^(AG)If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. ²⁶^(AH)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

²ιδε εγω παυλος λεγω υμιν οτι εαν περιτεμνησθε χριστος υμας ουδεν ωφελησει

³μαρτυρομαι δε παλιν παντι ανθρωπω περιτεμνομενω οτι οφειλετης εστιν ολον τον νομον ποιησαι

⁴κατηργηθητε απο του χριστου οιτινες εν νομω δικαιουσθε της χαριτος εξεπεσατε

⁵ημεις γαρ πνευματι εκ πιστεως ελπιδα δικαιοσυνης απεκδεχομεθα

⁶εν γαρ χριστω ιησου ουτε περιτομη τι ισχυει ουτε ακροβυστια αλλα πιστις δι αγαπης ενεργουμενη

⁷ετρεχετε καλως τις υμας ανεκοψεν τη αληθεια μη πειθεσθαι

¹⁰εγω πεποιθα εις υμας εν κυριω οτι ουδεν αλλο φρονησετε ο δε ταρασσων υμας βαστασει το κριμα οστις αν η

¹¹εγω δε αδελφοι ει περιτομην ετι κηρυσσω τι ετι διωκομαι αρα κατηργηται το σκανδαλον του σταυρου

¹²οφελον και αποκοψονται οι αναστατουντες υμας

¹³υμεις γαρ επ ελευθερια εκληθητε αδελφοι μονον μη την ελευθεριαν εις αφορμην τη σαρκι αλλα δια της αγαπης δουλευετε αλληλοις

¹⁴ο γαρ πας νομος εν ενι λογω πληρουται εν τω αγαπησεις τον πλησιον σου ως εαυτον

¹⁵ει δε αλληλους δακνετε και κατεσθιετε βλεπετε μη υπο αλληλων αναλωθητε

¹⁶λεγω δε πνευματι περιπατειτε και επιθυμιαν σαρκος ου μη τελεσητε

¹⁷η γαρ σαρξ επιθυμει κατα του πνευματος το δε πνευμα κατα της σαρκος ταυτα δε αντικειται αλληλοις ινα μη α αν θελητε ταυτα ποιητε

Galatians 5

Young's Literal Translation

5 In the freedom, then, with which Christ did make you free -- stand ye, and be not held fast again by a yoke of servitude;

²lo, I Paul do say to you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing;

³and I testify again to every man circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law;

⁴ye were freed from the Christ, ye who in law are declared righteous; from the grace ye fell away;

⁵for we by the Spirit, by faith, a hope of righteousness do wait for,

⁶for in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but faith through love working.

⁷Ye were running well; who did hinder you -- not to obey the truth?

⁸the obedience [is] not of him who is calling you!

⁹a little leaven the whole lump doth leaven;

¹⁰I have confidence in regard to you in the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded; and he who is troubling you shall bear the judgment, whoever he may be.

¹¹And I, brethren, if uncircumcision I yet preach, why yet am I persecuted? then hath the stumbling-block of the cross been done away;

¹²O that even they would cut themselves off who are unsettling you!

¹³For ye -- to freedom ye were called, brethren, only not the freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through the love serve ye one another,

¹⁴for all the law in one word is fulfilled -- in this: `Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself;'

¹⁵and if one another ye do bite and devour, see -- that ye may not by one another be consumed.

¹⁶And I say: In the Spirit walk ye, and the desire of the flesh ye may not complete;

¹⁷for the flesh doth desire contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit contrary to the flesh, and these are opposed one to another, that the things that ye may will -- these ye may not do;

¹⁸and if by the Spirit ye are led, ye are not under law.

¹⁹And manifest also are the works of the flesh, which are: Adultery, whoredom, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

²⁰idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strifes, emulations, wraths, rivalries, dissensions, sects,

²¹envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revellings, and such like, of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that those doing such things the reign of God shall not inherit.

²²And the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,

²³meekness, temperance: against such there is no law;

²⁴and those who are Christ's, the flesh did crucify with the affections, and the desires;

²⁵if we may live in the Spirit, in the Spirit also we may walk;

²⁶let us not become vain-glorious -- one another provoking, one another envying!
