Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: (A)Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For (B)the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, (C)so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But (D)if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now (E)the works of the flesh are evident, which are: [a]adultery, [b]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [c]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that (F)those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But (G)the fruit of the Spirit is (H)love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, (I)goodness, (J)faithfulness, 23 [d]gentleness, self-control. (K)Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s (L)have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 (M)If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 (N)Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Bear and Share Burdens

Brethren, if a man is [e]overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of (O)gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. (P)Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill (Q)the law of Christ. For (R)if anyone thinks himself to be something, when (S)he is nothing, he deceives himself. But (T)let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and (U)not in another. For (V)each one shall bear his own load.

Be Generous and Do Good

(W)Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for (X)whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap (Y)everlasting life. And (Z)let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap (AA)if we do not lose heart. 10 (AB)Therefore, as we have opportunity, (AC)let us do good to all, (AD)especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Glory Only in the Cross

11 See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! 12 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, (AE)only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the (AF)cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by [f]whom the world has been crucified to me, and (AG)I to the world. 15 For (AH)in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

Blessing and a Plea

16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.

17 From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit,(A) and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.(B) 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.(C) They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[a] you want.(D) 18 But if you are led by the Spirit,(E) you are not under the law.(F)

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,(G) impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.(H) I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.(I)

22 But the fruit(J) of the Spirit is love,(K) joy, peace,(L) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.(M) Against such things there is no law.(N) 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh(O) with its passions and desires.(P) 25 Since we live by the Spirit,(Q) let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited,(R) provoking and envying each other.

Doing Good to All

Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit(S) should restore(T) that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.(U) If anyone thinks they are something(V) when they are not, they deceive themselves.(W) Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone,(X) without comparing themselves to someone else,(Y) for each one should carry their own load.(Z) Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.(AA)

Do not be deceived:(AB) God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.(AC) Whoever sows to please their flesh,(AD) from the flesh will reap destruction;(AE) whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.(AF) Let us not become weary in doing good,(AG) for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.(AH) 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good(AI) to all people, especially to those who belong to the family(AJ) of believers.

Not Circumcision but the New Creation

11 See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!(AK)

12 Those who want to impress people by means of the flesh(AL) are trying to compel you to be circumcised.(AM) The only reason they do this is to avoid being persecuted(AN) for the cross of Christ. 13 Not even those who are circumcised keep the law,(AO) yet they want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your circumcision in the flesh.(AP) 14 May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ,(AQ) through which[b] the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.(AR) 15 Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything;(AS) what counts is the new creation.(AT) 16 Peace and mercy to all who follow this rule—to[c] the Israel of God.

17 From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks(AU) of Jesus.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ(AV) be with your spirit,(AW) brothers and sisters. Amen.
