4 Nguni't sinasabi ko na samantalang ang tagapagmana ay bata, ay walang pagkakaibang anoman sa alipin bagama't siya'y panginoon ng lahat;
2 Datapuwa't nasa ilalim ng mga tagapagampon at ng mga tagapangasiwa hanggang sa panahong itinakda ng ama.
3 Gayon din naman tayo, nang tayo'y mga bata pa, tayo'y nasasakop ng pagkaalipin sa ilalim ng mga pasimulang aral ng sanglibutan.
4 Datapuwa't nang dumating ang kapanahunan, ay sinugo ng Dios ang kaniyang Anak, na ipinanganak ng isang babae, na ipinanganak sa ilalim ng kautusan,
5 Upang matubos niya ang nangasa ilalim ng kautusan, upang matanggap natin ang pagkukupkop sa mga anak.
6 At sapagka't kayo'y mga anak, ay sinugo ng Dios ang Espiritu ng kaniyang Anak sa ating mga puso, na sumisigaw, Abba, Ama.
7 Ano pa't hindi ka na alipin, kundi anak; at kung anak, ay tagapagmana ka nga sa pamamagitan ng Dios.
8 Gayon man nang panahong yaon, sa hindi ninyo pagkakilala sa Dios, kayo'y nasa pagkaalipin ng sa katutubo ay hindi mga dios:
9 Datapuwa't ngayon yamang nakikilala na ninyo ang Dios, o ang lalong mabuting sabihin, kayo'y nangakikilala ng Dios, bakit muling nangagbabalik kayo doon sa mahihina at walang bisang mga pasimulang aral, na sa mga yao'y ninanasa ninyong magbalik sa pagkaalipin?
10 Ipinangingilin ninyo ang mga araw, at mga buwan, at mga panahon, at mga taon.
11 Ako'y natatakot tungkol sa inyo, baka sa anomang paraan ay nagpagal ako sa inyo ng walang kabuluhan.
12 Ipinamamanhik ko sa inyo, mga kapatid, na kayo'y mangagsitulad sa akin, sapagka't ako'y katulad din ninyo. Wala kayong ginawa sa aking anomang kasamaan.
13 Datapuwa't nalalaman ninyo na dahil sa sakit ng laman, ay ipinangaral ko sa inyo ang evangelio nang pasimula:
14 At yaong sa inyo'y isang tukso sa aking laman ay hindi ninyo inalipusta, ni itinakuwil man; kundi ako'y tinanggap ninyong tulad sa isang anghel ng Dios, tulad kay Cristo Jesus.
15 Saan nga naroon yaong inyong kapalaran? sapagka't pinatototohanan ko sa inyo, na, kung mangyayari, ay inyong dinukit sana ang inyong mga mata at ibinigay sa akin.
16 Kaya nga ako baga'y naging kaaway ninyo, sa pagsasabi ko sa inyo ng katotohanan?
17 May nangagmamalasakit sa inyo sa hindi mabuting akala; subali't, ang ibig nila ay ihiwalay kayo, upang ipagmalasakit ninyo sila.
18 Datapuwa't mabuti ang ipagmalasakit sa mabuting bagay sa lahat ng panahon, at hindi lamang samantalang ako'y kaharap ninyo.
19 Maliliit kong mga anak, na muli kong ipinagdaramdam sa panganganak hanggang si Cristo ay mabadha sa inyo.
20 Datapuwa't, ibig kong makaharap ninyo ako ngayon, at baguhin ang aking tinig; sapagka't ako'y nagaalinlangan tungkol sa inyo.
21 Sabihin ninyo sa akin, kayong nagsisipagnasang mapasa ilalim ng kautusan, hindi baga ninyo naririnig ang kautusan?
22 Sapagka't nasusulat, na si Abraham ay nagkaroon ng dalawang anak, ang isa'y sa aliping babae, at ang isa'y sa babaing malaya.
23 Gayon man ang anak sa alipin ay ipinanganak ayon sa laman; nguni't ang anak sa babaing malaya ay sa pamamagitan ng pangako.
24 Ang mga bagay na ito'y may lamang talinghaga: sapagka't ang mga babaing ito'y dalawang tipan; ang isa'y mula sa bundok ng Sinai, na nanganganak ng mga anak sa pagkaalipin, na ito'y si Agar.
25 Ang Agar ngang ito ay bundok ng Sinai sa Arabia, at ito'y katulad ng Jerusalem ngayon: sapagka't ito'y nasa pagkaalipin kasama ng kaniyang mga anak.
26 Nguni't ang Jerusalem na nasa itaas ay malaya, na siyang ina natin.
27 Sapagka't nasusulat, Magsaya ka, Oh baog na hindi nanganganak; Magbiglang umawit at humiyaw ka, ikaw na hindi nagdaramdam sa panganganak: Sapagka't higit pa ang mga anak ng pinabayaan kay sa mga anak ng may asawa.
28 At tayo, mga kapatid, tulad ni Isaac, ay mga anak sa pangako.
29 Datapuwa't kung papaanong yaong ipinanganak ayon sa laman ay nagusig sa ipinanganak ayon sa espiritu, ay gayon din naman ngayon.
30 Gayon man ano ang sinasabi ng kasulatan? Palayasin ang aliping babae at ang kaniyang anak: sapagka't hindi magmamana ang anak ng babaing alipin na kasama ng anak ng babaing malaya.
31 Kaya nga, mga kapatid, hindi tayo mga anak ng babaing alipin, kundi ng babaing malaya.

La adopción es solo mediante Jesucristo
4 Digo, pues: mientras el heredero es menor de edad,[a] en nada es diferente del siervo[b], aunque sea el dueño de todo, 2 sino que está bajo guardianes y tutores[c] hasta la edad señalada[d] por el padre. 3 Así también nosotros, mientras éramos niños, estábamos sujetos a servidumbre(A) bajo las cosas elementales[e] del mundo(B).
4 Pero cuando vino la plenitud del tiempo(C), Dios envió a Su Hijo, nacido de mujer(D), nacido bajo la ley(E), 5 a fin de que redimiera a los que estaban bajo la ley, para que recibiéramos la adopción de hijos(F). 6 Y porque ustedes son hijos, Dios ha enviado el Espíritu de Su Hijo a nuestros corazones(G), clamando: «¡Abba! ¡Padre(H)!». 7 Por tanto, ya no eres siervo[f], sino hijo; y si hijo, también heredero por medio de Dios[g](I).
No se vuelvan a la esclavitud
8 Pero en aquel tiempo, cuando ustedes no conocían a Dios(J), eran siervos(K) de los que por naturaleza no son dioses(L). 9 Pero ahora que conocen[h] a Dios, o más bien, que son[i] conocidos por Dios(M), ¿cómo es que se vuelven otra vez a las cosas débiles, inútiles y elementales[j](N), a las cuales desean volver a estar esclavizados de nuevo? 10 Ustedes observan los días(O), los meses, las estaciones y los años. 11 Temo que quizá he trabajado en vano por ustedes.
12 Les ruego, hermanos(P), háganse como yo, pues yo también me he hecho como ustedes(Q). Ningún agravio me han hecho. 13 Pero saben que fue por causa de una enfermedad física[k] que les prediqué el evangelio la primera vez[l]. 14 Y lo que para ustedes fue una prueba[m] en mi condición física[n], que no despreciaron ni rechazaron[o], sino que me recibieron como un ángel de Dios, como a Cristo Jesús(R) mismo(S).
15 ¿Dónde está, pues, aquel sentido de bendición que tuvieron[p]? Pues testigo soy en favor de ustedes[q] de que de ser posible, se hubieran sacado los ojos y me los hubieran dado. 16 ¿Me he vuelto, por tanto, enemigo de ustedes al decirles la verdad[r](T)? 17 Algunos les tienen celo, no con buena intención, sino que quieren excluirlos a fin de que ustedes muestren celo por ellos. 18 Es bueno mostrar celo con buena intención siempre, y no solo cuando yo estoy presente con ustedes(U). 19 Hijos míos(V), por quienes de nuevo sufro dolores de parto(W) hasta que Cristo sea formado en ustedes(X), 20 quisiera estar presente con ustedes ahora y cambiar mi tono, pues estoy perplejo(Y) en cuanto a ustedes.

21 Díganme, los que desean estar bajo la ley, ¿no oyen a la ley(Z)? 22 Porque está escrito que Abraham tuvo dos hijos, uno de la sierva(AA) y otro de la libre(AB). 23 Pero el hijo de la sierva nació según la carne(AC), y el hijo de la libre por medio de la promesa(AD).
24 Esto contiene una alegoría[s](AE), pues estas mujeres son dos pactos. Uno procede del monte Sinaí(AF) que engendra hijos para ser esclavos[t](AG); este[u] es Agar. 25 Ahora bien, Agar es el monte Sinaí en Arabia, y corresponde a la Jerusalén actual, porque ella está en esclavitud con sus hijos. 26 Pero la Jerusalén de arriba(AH) es libre; esta[v] es nuestra madre. 27 Porque escrito está:
«Regocíjate, oh estéril, la que no concibes;
Prorrumpe y clama, tú que no tienes dolores de parto,
Porque más son los hijos de la desolada,
Que de la que tiene marido(AI)».
28 Y ustedes, hermanos, como Isaac, son hijos de la promesa(AJ).
29 Pero así como entonces el que nació según la carne(AK) persiguió(AL) al que nació según el Espíritu, así también sucede ahora(AM). 30 Pero, ¿qué dice la Escritura?
«Echa fuera a la sierva y a su hijo,
Pues el hijo de la sierva no será heredero con el hijo de la libre(AN)».
31 Así que, hermanos, no somos hijos de la sierva, sino de la libre[w].

4 What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2 The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3 So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery(A) under the elemental spiritual forces[a] of the world.(B) 4 But when the set time had fully come,(C) God sent his Son,(D) born of a woman,(E) born under the law,(F) 5 to redeem(G) those under the law, that we might receive adoption(H) to sonship.[b](I) 6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son(J) into our hearts,(K) the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,[c] Father.”(L) 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.(M)
Paul’s Concern for the Galatians
8 Formerly, when you did not know God,(N) you were slaves(O) to those who by nature are not gods.(P) 9 But now that you know God—or rather are known by God(Q)—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces[d]? Do you wish to be enslaved(R) by them all over again?(S) 10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!(T) 11 I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.(U)
12 I plead with you, brothers and sisters,(V) become like me, for I became like you. You did me no wrong. 13 As you know, it was because of an illness(W) that I first preached the gospel to you, 14 and even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.(X) 15 Where, then, is your blessing of me now? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?(Y)
17 Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them.(Z) 18 It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you.(AA) 19 My dear children,(AB) for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you,(AC) 20 how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you!
Hagar and Sarah
21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law,(AD) are you not aware of what the law says? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman(AE) and the other by the free woman.(AF) 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh,(AG) but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.(AH)
24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above(AI) is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written:
“Be glad, barren woman,
you who never bore a child;
shout for joy and cry aloud,
you who were never in labor;
because more are the children of the desolate woman
than of her who has a husband.”[e](AJ)
28 Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise.(AK) 29 At that time the son born according to the flesh(AL) persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit.(AM) It is the same now. 30 But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”[f](AN) 31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman,(AO) but of the free woman.(AP)
