Peter (Cephas) Opposed by Paul

¹¹ But when ^(A)Cephas came to ^(B)Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he ^[a]stood condemned. ¹² For prior to the coming of some men from ^[b](C)James, he used to ^(D)eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and separate himself, ^(E)fearing those from the circumcision. ¹³ The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even ^(F)Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they ^(G)were not ^[c]straightforward about ^(H)the truth of the gospel, I said to ^(I)Cephas in the presence of all, “If you, being a Jew, ^(J)live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?^[d]

¹⁵ “We are ^(K)Jews by nature and not ^(L)sinners from the Gentiles; ¹⁶ nevertheless, knowing that ^(M)a person is not justified by works of ^[e]the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by ^(N)faith in Christ and not by works of ^[f]the Law; since ^(O)by works of ^[g]the Law no ^[h]flesh will be justified.

²⁵ “And now behold, I know that all of you, among whom I went about ^(A)preaching the kingdom, will no longer see my face. ²⁶ Therefore, I ^[a]testify to you this day that ^(B)I am ^[b]innocent of the blood of all people. ²⁷ For I ^(C)did not shrink from declaring to you the whole ^(D)purpose of God. ²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all ^(E)the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you ^[c]overseers, to shepherd ^(F)the church of God which ^(G)He ^[d]purchased ^[e]with His own blood. ²⁹ I know that after my departure ^(H)savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing ^(I)the flock; ³⁰ and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things to draw away ^(J)the disciples after them. ³¹ Therefore, be on the alert, remembering that night and day for a period of ^(K)three years I did not cease to admonish each one ^(L)with tears. ³² And now I ^(M)entrust you to God and to ^(N)the word of His grace, which is able to ^(O)build you up and to give you ^(P)the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

^16 (A)Pay close attention to yourself and to the teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ^(B)save both yourself and those who hear you.

Faith Brings Righteousness

3 ^[a]You foolish ^(A)Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ ^(B)was publicly portrayed as crucified? ² This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of ^[b]the Law, or by ^(C)hearing ^[c]with faith? ³ Are you so foolish? Having begun ^[d]by the Spirit, are you now ^[e]being perfected by the flesh? ⁴ Did you ^[f]suffer so many things in vain—^(D)if indeed it was in vain? ⁵ So then, does He who ^(E)provides you with the Spirit and ^(F)works ^[g]miracles among you, do it by works of ^[h]the Law, or by ^(G)hearing ^[i]with faith?

³ But I am afraid that, as the ^(A)serpent deceived Eve by his trickery, your minds will be led astray from sincere and pure devotion to Christ. ⁴ For if ^[a]one comes and preaches ^(B)another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a ^(C)different spirit which you have not received, or a ^(D)different gospel which you have not accepted, this you ^(E)tolerate ^(F)very well!
