32 [a]You must diligently observe everything that I command you; do not add to it or take anything from it.(A)

13 [b]“If prophets or those who divine by dreams appear among you and show you omens or portents,(B) and the omens or the portents declared by them take place, and they say, ‘Let us follow other gods’ (whom you have not known) ‘and let us serve them,’(C) you must not heed the words of those prophets or those who divine by dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you indeed love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.(D) The Lord your God you shall follow, him alone you shall fear, his commandments you shall keep, his voice you shall obey, him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.(E) But those prophets or those who divine by dreams shall be put to death for having spoken treason against the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, to turn you from the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.(F)

“If anyone secretly entices you—even if it is your brother, your father’s son or[c] your mother’s son, or your own son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your most intimate friend—saying, ‘Let us go serve other gods,’ whom neither you nor your ancestors have known,(G) any of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far away from you, from one end of the earth to the other, you must not yield to or heed any such persons. Show them no pity or compassion, and do not shield them. But you shall surely kill them; your own hand shall be first against them to execute them and afterward the hand of all the people.(H) 10 Stone them to death for trying to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 11 Then all Israel shall hear and be afraid and never again do any such wickedness.(I)

Worshiping Other Gods

13 [b]If a prophet,(B) or one who foretells by dreams,(C) appears among you and announces to you a sign or wonder, and if the sign(D) or wonder spoken of takes place, and the prophet says, “Let us follow other gods”(E) (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet(F) or dreamer.(G) The Lord your God is testing(H) you to find out whether you love(I) him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the Lord your God you must follow,(J) and him you must revere.(K) Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast(L) to him. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death(M) for inciting rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. That prophet or dreamer tried to turn(N) you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil(O) from among you.

If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices(P) you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods”(Q) (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield(R) to them or listen to them. Show them no pity.(S) Do not spare them or shield them. You must certainly put them to death.(T) Your hand(U) must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away(V) from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid,(W) and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.
