Caim e Abel
4 Adão dormiu com a sua mulher Eva e ela ficou grávida e deu à luz um filho chamado Caim[a]. Ela lhe deu esse nome porque disse:
—Consegui ter um filho com a ajuda do SENHOR.
2 Depois teve outro filho, chamado Abel, irmão de Caim. Abel era pastor de ovelhas e Caim era agricultor.
3 Passado algum tempo, Caim trouxe ao SENHOR uma oferta do fruto da terra. 4 Abel também trouxe a sua oferta, ele ofereceu as melhores partes das primeiras crias do seu rebanho.[b] E o SENHOR aceitou Abel e a sua oferta com prazer, 5 mas não ficou satisfeito com Caim, nem com a oferta que ele fez. Então Caim ficou furioso e com cara de insatisfeito. 6 O SENHOR lhe perguntou:
—Porque está furioso? Porque está com cara de insatisfeito? 7 Não será abençoado se fizer o que é certo? Mas se fizer o que é errado, o pecado está na porta pronto para atacar você[c]. O pecado deseja dominar você, mas é você quem tem que dominar o pecado.
8 Caim, porém, disse ao seu irmão Abel:
—Vamos para o campo.[d]
Enquanto estavam no campo, Caim atacou ao seu irmão Abel e o matou. 9 Então o SENHOR perguntou a Caim:
—Onde está Abel, o seu irmão?
Caim respondeu:
—Não sei, eu não sou o guarda do meu irmão!
10 O SENHOR lhe disse:
—O que você fez? O sangue do seu irmão grita desde a terra me pedindo que faça justiça. 11 De agora em diante, você será amaldiçoado e expulso da terra, que bebeu o sangue do seu irmão que você mesmo derramou. 12 Quando você cultivar a terra, esta já não lhe dará o seu fruto. Andará fugindo de um lado para o outro.
13 Caim disse ao SENHOR:
—O meu castigo é pesado demais, não o posso suportar. 14 Hoje mesmo você está me expulsando desta terra e a partir de agora terei que me esconder de você. Andarei fugindo de um lado para o outro, e quem me encontrar vai querer me matar.
15 Então o SENHOR lhe disse:
—Não será assim, pois quem matar Caim será castigado com a morte de sete pessoas da sua própria família.
E o SENHOR pôs um sinal em Caim para que ninguém o matasse ao encontrá-lo.
A família de Caim
16 Assim Caim saiu da presença do SENHOR e foi viver numa terra chamada Node,[e] que fica ao leste do Éden. 17 Caim dormiu com a sua mulher, ela ficou grávida e deu à luz um filho chamado Enoque. E Caim construiu uma cidade e lhe deu o mesmo nome que ele tinha dado ao seu filho: Enoque. 18 Enoque foi o pai de Irade, Irade foi o pai de Meujael, Meujael foi o pai de Metusael, e Metusael foi o pai de Lameque. 19 Lameque casou-se com duas mulheres: uma chamada Ada e a outra, Zilá. 20 Ada deu à luz um filho chamado Jabal, que foi o primeiro homem a viver em tendas e a criar gado. 21 O seu irmão se chamava Jubal e ele foi o primeiro homem a tocar a harpa e a flauta. 22 Zilá deu à luz um filho chamado Tubal-Caim e ele foi o primeiro homem a trabalhar com cobre e com ferro. A irmã de Tubal-Caim foi Naamá.
23 Um dia Lameque disse às suas mulheres:
“Ada e Zilá, ouçam-me,
mulheres de Lameque, escutem o que eu digo:
eu matarei qualquer um que me ferir;
ainda que seja um jovem, eu o matarei se só me bater.
24 Se qualquer um que matasse Caim seria castigado
com a morte de sete pessoas da sua família,
então qualquer um que matar Lameque será castigado
com a morte de setenta e sete pessoas da sua família!”
Adão e Eva têm outro filho
25 Adão voltou a dormir com a sua mulher e ela deu à luz um filho, a quem deu o nome de Sete, pois disse:
—Deus me deu[f] outro filho no lugar de Abel, que Caim matou.
26 Sete também teve um filho, a quem deu o nome de Enos. Foi naquele tempo que as pessoas começaram a invocar o SENHOR.[g]

- 4.26 invocar o SENHOR Literalmente, “a invocar o nome de YAVÉ”. Nas religiões primitivas daquele tempo, eram os deuses quem precisavam da adoração dos seres humanos e, por isso, ordenavam que fossem adorados. No livro do Gênesis, é o ser humano quem precisa de Deus e o procura.

Cain Murders Abel(A)
4 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore [a]Cain, and said, “I have acquired a man from the Lord.” 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother [b]Abel. Now (B)Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And [c]in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit (C)of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of (D)the firstborn of his flock and of (E)their fat. And the Lord (F)respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
6 So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is [d]for you, but you should rule over it.”
8 Now Cain [e]talked with Abel his [f]brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and (G)killed him.
9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, (H)“I do not know. Am I (I)my brother’s keeper?”
10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood (J)cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now (K)you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”
13 And Cain said to the Lord, “My [g]punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; (L)I shall be (M)hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that (N)anyone who finds me will kill me.”
15 And the Lord said to him, [h]“Therefore, whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him (O)sevenfold.” And the Lord set a (P)mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.
The Family of Cain
16 Then Cain (Q)went out from the (R)presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of [i]Nod on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, (S)and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
19 Then Lamech took for himself (T)two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20 And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and [j]flute. 22 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
23 Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!
For I have [k]killed a man for wounding me,
Even a young man [l]for hurting me.
24 (U)If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
A New Son
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and (V)named him [m]Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, (W)to him also a son was born; and he named him [n]Enosh. Then men began (X)to call on the name of the Lord.

7 Ако правиш добро, няма ли да бъде прието? Но ако не правиш добро, грехът лежи пред вратата и се стреми към тебе; но ти трябва да го покориш.
8 (E)Каин каза това на брат си Авел. И когато бяха на полето, Каин застана против брат си Авел и го уби.
9 (F)И Господ каза на Каин: Къде е брат ти Авел? А той отговори: Не зная; пазач ли съм аз на брат си?
10 (G)И Бог каза: Какво си направил? Гласът на братовата ти кръв вика към Мене от земята.
11 И сега, проклет си от земята, която отвори устата си да приеме кръвта на брат ти от твоята ръка.
12 Когато работиш земята, тя няма вече да ти дава силата си; беглец и скитник ще бъдеш на земята.
13 А Каин каза на Господа: Наказанието ми е толкова тежко, че не мога да го понеса.
14 (H)Ето, днес ме гониш от лицето на тази земя; ще бъда скрит от Твоето лице и ще бъда бежанец и скитник по земята; и така всеки, който ме намери, ще ме убие.

Потомството на Каин и Сит
17 (K)И Каин позна жена си, която зачена и роди Енох: и Каин съгради град и нарече града Енох, по името на сина си.
18 И на Енох се роди Ирад; а от Ирад се роди Мехуяил; от Мехуяил се роди Метусаил; и от Метусаил се роди Ламех.
19 Ламех си взе две жени; името на едната беше Ада, а името на другата Села.
20 Ада роди Явал; той беше родоначалник на онези, които живеят в шатри и имат добитък.
21 (L)Името пък на брат му беше Ювал; той беше родоначалник на всички, които свирят с арфа и кавал.
22 Така и Села роди Тувал-Каин, ковач на всякакъв вид медно и желязно сечиво; а сестра на Тувал-Каин беше Наама.
23 И Ламех каза на жените си:
Адо и Село, чуйте гласа ми,
жени Ламехови, слушайте думите ми,
понеже мъж убих затова, че ме нарани.
Да! Юноша – затова, че ме смаза.
24 (M)Ако на Каин се отмъсти седмократно,
то на Ламех ще се отмъсти седемдесет и седемкратно.
25 (N)И Адам пак позна жена си и тя роди син, когото наименува Сит[a], защото, казваше тя, Бог ми определи друга рожба вместо Авел, тъй като Каин го уби.
26 (O)Също и на Сит се роди син, когото наименува Енос. Тогава хората започнаха да призовават Господнето име[b].

4 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
