47 José fue a informar al faraón, y le dijo:
―Mi padre y mis hermanos han venido desde Canaán con sus ovejas y sus vacas y todas sus pertenencias. Ya se encuentran en la región de Gosén.
2 Además, José había elegido a cinco de sus hermanos para presentárselos al faraón. 3 Y este les preguntó:
―¿En qué trabajáis?
―Nosotros, tus siervos, somos pastores, al igual que nuestros antepasados —respondieron ellos—. 4 Hemos venido a vivir en este país porque en Canaán ya no hay pastos para nuestros rebaños. ¡Es terrible el hambre que acosa a ese país! Por eso te rogamos que nos permitas vivir en la región de Gosén.
5 Entonces el faraón le dijo a José:
―Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a estar contigo. 6 La tierra de Egipto está a tu disposición. Haz que se asienten en lo mejor de la tierra; que residan en la región de Gosén. Y, si sabes que hay entre ellos hombres capaces, ponlos a cargo de mi propio ganado.
7 Luego José llevó a Jacob, su padre, y se lo presentó al faraón. Jacob saludó al faraón con reverencia,[a] 8 y el faraón le preguntó:
―¿Cuántos años tienes?
9 ―Ya tengo ciento treinta años —respondió Jacob—. Mis años de andar peregrinando de un lado a otro han sido pocos y difíciles, pero no se comparan con los años de peregrinaje de mis antepasados.
10 Luego Jacob se despidió del faraón con sumo respeto,[b] y se retiró de su presencia.
11 José instaló a su padre y a sus hermanos, y les entregó terrenos en la mejor región de Egipto, es decir, en el distrito de Ramsés, tal como había ordenado el faraón. 12 José también proveyó de alimentos a su padre y a sus hermanos, y a todos sus familiares, según las necesidades de cada uno.
La administración de José
13 El hambre en Egipto y en Canaán era terrible. No había alimento en ninguna parte, y la gente estaba a punto de morir. 14 Todo el dinero que los habitantes de Egipto y de Canaán habían pagado por el alimento, José lo recaudó para depositarlo en el palacio del faraón. 15 Cuando a egipcios y cananeos se les acabó el dinero, los egipcios fueron a ver a José y le reclamaron:
―¡Danos de comer! ¿Hemos de morir en tu presencia solo porque no tenemos más dinero?
16 Y José les contestó:
―Si ya se os acabó el dinero, traed vuestro ganado y, a cambio, os daré alimento.
17 Los egipcios llevaron a José su ganado, es decir, sus caballos, vacas, ovejas y asnos, y a cambio de ellos José les dio alimento durante todo ese año. 18 Al año siguiente fueron a decirle a José:
―Señor, no podemos ocultar el hecho de que ya no tenemos más dinero, y de que todo nuestro ganado ya es de nuestro señor. Ya no tenemos nada que ofrecer a nuestro señor, excepto nuestros propios cuerpos y nuestras tierras. 19 ¿Vas a permitir que nos muramos junto con nuestras tierras? Cómpranos a nosotros y a nuestras tierras, a cambio de alimento. Así seremos esclavos del faraón junto con nuestras tierras. ¡Pero danos semilla, para que podamos vivir y la tierra no quede desolada!
20 De esta manera José adquirió para el faraón todas las tierras de Egipto, porque los egipcios, obligados por el hambre, le vendieron todos sus terrenos. Fue así como todo el país llegó a ser propiedad del faraón, 21 y todos en Egipto quedaron reducidos a la esclavitud.[c] 22 Los únicos terrenos que José no compró fueron los que pertenecían a los sacerdotes. Estos no tuvieron que vender sus terrenos porque recibían una ración de alimento de parte del faraón.
23 Luego José informó al pueblo:
―Desde ahora vosotros y vuestras tierras pertenecéis al faraón, porque yo os he comprado. Aquí tenéis semilla. Sembrad la tierra. 24 Cuando llegue la cosecha, deberéis entregarle al faraón la quinta parte de lo cosechado. Las otras cuatro partes serán para la siembra de los campos, y para alimentaros a vosotros, a vuestros hijos y a vuestros familiares.
25 ―¡Tú nos has salvado la vida, y hemos contado con tu favor! —respondieron ellos—. ¡Seremos esclavos del faraón!
26 José estableció esta ley en toda la tierra de Egipto, que hasta el día de hoy sigue vigente: la quinta parte de la cosecha le pertenece al faraón. Solo las tierras de los sacerdotes no llegaron a ser del faraón.
27 Los israelitas se asentaron en Egipto, en la región de Gosén. Allí adquirieron propiedades, prosperaron y llegaron a ser muy numerosos. 28 Jacob residió diecisiete años en Egipto, y llegó a vivir un total de ciento cuarenta y siete años. 29 Cuando Israel estaba a punto de morir, mandó llamar a su hijo José y le dijo:
―Si de veras me quieres, pon tu mano debajo de mi muslo y prométeme amor y lealtad. ¡Por favor, no me entierres en Egipto! 30 Cuando vaya a descansar junto a mis antepasados, sácame de Egipto y entiérrame en el sepulcro de ellos.
―Haré lo que me pides —contestó José.
31 ―¡Júramelo! —insistió su padre.
José se lo juró, e Israel se reclinó sobre la cabecera de la cama.

47 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan(A) and are now in Goshen.”(B) 2 He chose five of his brothers and presented them(C) before Pharaoh.
3 Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?”(D)
“Your servants(E) are shepherds,(F)” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.” 4 They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while,(G) because the famine is severe in Canaan(H) and your servants’ flocks have no pasture.(I) So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.”(J)
5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you, 6 and the land of Egypt is before you; settle(K) your father and your brothers in the best part of the land.(L) Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability,(M) put them in charge of my own livestock.(N)”
7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him(O) before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed[a] Pharaoh,(P) 8 Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”
9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty.(Q) My years have been few and difficult,(R) and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.(S)” 10 Then Jacob blessed[b] Pharaoh(T) and went out from his presence.
11 So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land,(U) the district of Rameses,(V) as Pharaoh directed. 12 Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children.(W)
Joseph and the Famine
13 There was no food, however, in the whole region because the famine was severe; both Egypt and Canaan wasted away because of the famine.(X) 14 Joseph collected all the money that was to be found in Egypt and Canaan in payment for the grain they were buying,(Y) and he brought it to Pharaoh’s palace.(Z) 15 When the money of the people of Egypt and Canaan was gone,(AA) all Egypt came to Joseph(AB) and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes?(AC) Our money is all gone.”
16 “Then bring your livestock,(AD)” said Joseph. “I will sell you food in exchange for your livestock, since your money is gone.(AE)” 17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses,(AF) their sheep and goats, their cattle and donkeys.(AG) And he brought them through that year with food in exchange for all their livestock.
18 When that year was over, they came to him the following year and said, “We cannot hide from our lord the fact that since our money is gone(AH) and our livestock belongs to you,(AI) there is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land. 19 Why should we perish before your eyes(AJ)—we and our land as well? Buy us and our land in exchange for food,(AK) and we with our land will be in bondage to Pharaoh.(AL) Give us seed so that we may live and not die,(AM) and that the land may not become desolate.”
20 So Joseph bought all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh. The Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields, because the famine was too severe(AN) for them. The land became Pharaoh’s, 21 and Joseph reduced the people to servitude,[c](AO) from one end of Egypt to the other. 22 However, he did not buy the land of the priests,(AP) because they received a regular allotment from Pharaoh and had food enough from the allotment(AQ) Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.
23 Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh, here is seed(AR) for you so you can plant the ground.(AS) 24 But when the crop comes in, give a fifth(AT) of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children.”
25 “You have saved our lives,” they said. “May we find favor in the eyes of our lord;(AU) we will be in bondage to Pharaoh.”(AV)
26 So Joseph established it as a law concerning land in Egypt—still in force today—that a fifth(AW) of the produce belongs to Pharaoh. It was only the land of the priests that did not become Pharaoh’s.(AX)
27 Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen.(AY) They acquired property there(AZ) and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.(BA)
28 Jacob lived in Egypt(BB) seventeen years, and the years of his life were a hundred and forty-seven.(BC) 29 When the time drew near for Israel(BD) to die,(BE) he called for his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes,(BF) put your hand under my thigh(BG) and promise that you will show me kindness(BH) and faithfulness.(BI) Do not bury me in Egypt, 30 but when I rest with my fathers,(BJ) carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried.”(BK)
“I will do as you say,” he said.
31 “Swear to me,”(BL) he said. Then Joseph swore to him,(BM) and Israel(BN) worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.[d](BO)

47 József elment és hírt vitt a fáraónak. Ezt mondta: Apám és testvéreim megérkeztek Kánaán földjéről juhaikkal, marháikkal és mindenükkel, és már Gósen földjén vannak.
2 Maga mellé vett ötöt a testvérei közül, és odaállította őket a fáraó elé.
3 A fáraó ezt kérdezte a testvérektől: Mi a foglalkozásotok? Ők így feleltek a fáraónak: Juhpásztorok a te szolgáid, mi is, meg atyáink is azok voltak.
4 Majd ezt mondták a fáraónak: Jövevényként jöttünk erre a földre, mert szolgáid juhainak nincs legelője, olyan súlyos az éhínség Kánaán földjén. Hadd telepedjenek le szolgáid Gósen földjén!
5 A fáraó ezt mondta Józsefnek: Apád és testvéreid idejöttek hozzád.
6 Előtted van Egyiptom országa. Az ország legjobb részén telepítsd le apádat és testvéreidet, telepedjenek le Gósen földjén. Ha pedig tudod, hogy vannak közöttük rátermett emberek, tedd azokat jószágaim felügyelőivé!
7 József bevezette apját, Jákóbot is, és odaállította a fáraó elé. Jákób áldást mondott a fáraóra.
8 A fáraó ezt kérdezte Jákóbtól: Hány éves vagy?
9 Jákób azt felelte a fáraónak: Vándorlásom éveinek a száma százharminc esztendő. Életem rövid volt, tele rossz napokkal. Nem értem el atyáim vándorlása éveinek a számát.
10 Majd áldást mondott Jákób a fáraóra, és eltávozott a fáraó elől.
11 Így telepítette le József az apját és testvéreit, és birtokot adott nekik Egyiptomban, az ország legjobb részén, Ramszesz földjén, ahogyan megparancsolta a fáraó.
12 És ellátta József kenyérrel az apját, testvéreit és apja egész háza népét családostul.
Éhínség Egyiptomban
13 Olyan súlyos volt az éhínség, hogy sehol az országban nem volt kenyér. Egyiptom földje és Kánaán földje sínylődött az éhínség miatt.
14 József összeszedetett minden pénzt, ami csak található volt Egyiptom és Kánaán földjén, a gabonáért, amelyet vásároltak. Ezt a pénzt József a fáraó házának juttatta.
15 Amikor elfogyott a pénz Egyiptom földjén is, Kánaán földjén is, akkor Józsefhez mentek egész Egyiptomból, és azt mondták: Adj nekünk kenyeret: Miért haljunk meg itt előtted? Hiszen nincs már pénz!
16 József így felelt: Adjátok ide jószágaitokat, akkor adok nektek jószágaitokért, ha már nincs pénz.
17 El is vitték jószágaikat Józsefhez, József pedig adott nekik kenyeret a lovakért, a juhnyájakért, a marhacsordákért és szamarakért. Ellátta őket kenyérrel abban az esztendőben minden jószágukért.
18 Miután eltelt az az esztendő, a másik esztendőben megint odamentek hozzá, és azt mondták neki: Nem titkolhatjuk el, uram, hogy elfogyott a pénz, jószágaink és állataink pedig urunknál vannak. Nem maradt egyebünk, uram, csak a testünk és a földünk.
19 Miért pusztuljunk el a szemed előtt magunk is, földünk is? Vásárolj meg minket és a földünket kenyéren, és mi földünkkel együtt a fáraó szolgái leszünk. Csak adj vetőmagot, hogy életben maradjunk, ne haljunk meg, és a termőföld se váljék pusztává.
20 József tehát megvásárolta Egyiptom egész földjét a fáraó részére, mert az egyiptomiak mind eladták mezőiket, olyan súlyos volt náluk az éhínség. Így lett a föld a fáraóé.
21 A népet a városok közelébe telepítette Egyiptom egyik határszélétől a másik széléig.
22 Csak a papok földjét nem vásárolta meg, mert az a papok javadalma volt a fáraó rendelete szerint, és ők abból a javadalomból éltek, amelyet a fáraó rendelete juttatott nekik. Ezért nem adták el a földjüket.
23 Akkor József ezt mondta a népnek: A mai napon megvásároltalak benneteket és földeteket a fáraónak. Itt a vetőmag, vessétek be a földet!
24 A termés egyötödét a fáraónak kell adnotok, négyötöde marad nektek a mező bevetésére és élelemre házatok népének, hogy legyen ennivalója családotoknak.
25 Ők ezt felelték: Te mentetted meg az életünket. Légy jóindulattal irántunk, uram, és mi a fáraó szolgái leszünk!
26 Azt a mai napig is érvényes rendeletet hozta József Egyiptomban a földre vonatkozólag, hogy a termés egyötöde a fáraóé; csak a papok földje nem volt a fáraóé.
Jákób végrendelete
27 Izráel tehát letelepedett Egyiptomban, a Gósen földjén. Birtokukba vették azt, elszaporodtak és nagyon sokan lettek.
28 Jákób tizenhét évig élt Egyiptom országában. Összesen száznegyvenhét évig élt Jákób.
29 Amikor közeledett Izráel halálának az ideje, magához hívatta fiát, Józsefet, és ezt mondta neki: Ha megnyertem a jóindulatodat, tedd kezedet a csípőm alá, és esküdj meg, hogy hűséges szeretettel bánsz velem, és nem Egyiptomban temetsz el!
30 Őseim mellett akarok pihenni. Vigyél el Egyiptomból, és temess az ő sírjukba! Ő így felelt: Megteszem, amit mondtál.
31 Jákób ezt mondta: Esküdj meg nekem! Ő megesküdött. Ekkor Izráel térdre borult az ágy fejénél.
