Dios destruye Sodoma y Gomorra
19 Al caer la tarde, dos de los ángeles llegaron a Sodoma. Lot estaba sentado a la entrada de la ciudad, y en cuanto los vio se levantó para saludarlos. Sin levantar la vista, se inclinó ante ellos en señal de respeto, 2 y les dijo:
—Señores, estoy para servirles. Yo les ruego que vengan a mi casa. Allí podrán bañarse y pasar la noche; mañana podrán seguir su camino.
Sin embargo, ellos le dijeron:
—Se lo agradecemos, pero vamos a pasar la noche en la calle.
3 Lot siguió insistiendo hasta que los ángeles aceptaron quedarse en su casa. Una vez allí, Lot hizo pan y les dio de cenar, y los ángeles comieron.
4 Ya estaban por acostarse cuando llegaron todos los hombres de la ciudad, los jóvenes y los viejos, y rodearon la casa. 5 Gritando con todas sus fuerzas decían: «Lot, ¿dónde están los hombres que esta noche llegaron a tu casa? ¡Sácalos! ¡Queremos tener relaciones sexuales con ellos!»
6 Lot salió para hablar con ellos, pero al salir cerró la puerta. 7 Allí afuera les dijo:
—Amigos míos, ¡no hagan algo tan malo! 8 Yo tengo dos hijas solteras que nunca han tenido relaciones sexuales. Las voy a sacar, y ustedes pueden hacer con ellas lo que quieran. Pero a mis invitados no les hagan nada, pues están bajo mi protección.
9 Ellos le respondieron:
—¡Quítate de ahí! ¿Tú quién eres para decirnos lo que debemos hacer? ¡Ni siquiera eres de los nuestros! ¡Pues ahora te va a ir peor que a ellos!
Y a empujones quitaron a Lot de en medio, con la intención de echar abajo la puerta. 10 Sin embargo, desde adentro los ángeles estiraron el brazo, metieron a Lot en la casa y cerraron la puerta. 11 Luego, a todos los que estaban afuera los dejaron ciegos para que no pudieran entrar. 12 Después de eso, los dos ángeles le dijeron a Lot:
—Si tienes en la ciudad otros hijos o hijas, yernos o familiares, sácalos de aquí 13 porque vamos a destruir este lugar. Son tantas las quejas que hay contra la gente de esta ciudad, que Dios nos ha enviado a destruirla.
14 Lot salió de la casa para hablar con los novios de sus hijas, y les dijo:
—¡Apúrense! ¡Salgan de la ciudad, porque Dios está a punto de destruirla!
Sus futuros yernos pensaron que Lot estaba bromeando, 15 pero al amanecer los ángeles insistieron:
—¡Lot, date prisa! ¡Llévate de aquí a tu esposa y a tus dos hijas! ¡De lo contrario, serás destruido junto con la ciudad!
16 Y como Lot no se apuraba, los ángeles lo agarraron de la mano, y también a su esposa y a sus hijas, y los sacaron de la ciudad. Los pusieron a salvo porque Dios les tuvo compasión. 17 Tan pronto como los sacaron, uno de los ángeles dijo:
—¡Si quieren salvarse, corran! ¡No miren hacia atrás, ni se detengan en el valle! ¡Huyan a las montañas, y pónganse a salvo! De lo contrario, ¡serán destruidos!
18 Pero Lot le contestó:
—¡No, señor, de ninguna manera! 19 Aunque soy muy humilde, usted ha sido muy bueno conmigo, pues tuvo compasión de mí y me salvó la vida. Pero yo no puedo huir a las montañas, porque este desastre me alcanzará y moriré. 20 Mire, aquí cerca hay una ciudad pequeña; si echo a correr podré llegar a ella y ponerme a salvo. ¿Verdad que es muy pequeña?
21 Y aquel ángel le contestó:
—Está bien. Voy a cumplir tus deseos. No destruiré la ciudad de la que hablas. 22 Pero vete enseguida, porque no podré hacer nada hasta que llegues allá.
Por eso la ciudad se llama Sóar, que quiere decir, «pequeña».
23 Lot llegó a Sóar cuando el sol comenzaba a salir. 24 En ese momento Dios hizo caer del cielo una lluvia de azufre encendido sobre Sodoma y Gomorra. 25 Así fue como Dios acabó con las ciudades del valle y sus habitantes, y también destruyó toda la vegetación. 26 Pero la esposa de Lot miró hacia atrás, y quedó convertida en estatua de sal.
27 Al día siguiente, Abraham se levantó muy temprano y regresó a donde había estado hablando con Dios. 28 Echó una mirada hacia Sodoma y Gomorra, y hacia todo el valle, y vio que del suelo se levantaba mucho humo, como si hubiera una gran hoguera. 29 Fue así como Dios destruyó las ciudades del valle. Pero se acordó de Abraham y salvó a Lot de la terrible destrucción que acabó con esas ciudades.
Lot y sus hijas
30 Sin embargo, Lot y sus dos hijas tuvieron miedo de quedarse a vivir en Sóar. Por eso se fueron de allí y se quedaron a vivir en una cueva. 31 Un día, la hija mayor le dijo a su hermana menor:
«Nuestro padre ya está muy anciano, y no hay por aquí ningún hombre con el que podamos casarnos para tener hijos. 32 ¡Vamos a emborrachar a nuestro padre! Así nos acostaremos luego con él, y tendremos hijos suyos».
33 Esa misma noche lo emborracharon, y la hija mayor tuvo relaciones sexuales con él. Pero Lot no se dio cuenta cuando ella se acostó, ni tampoco cuando se levantó.
34 Al día siguiente, la hija mayor le dijo a la menor:
«Anoche me acosté con nuestro padre. Vamos a emborracharlo de nuevo, para que tengas relaciones sexuales con él. Así las dos tendremos hijos suyos».
35 Esa noche, después de emborracharlo, la hija menor fue y se acostó con él. Pero Lot no se dio cuenta cuando ella se acostó, ni tampoco cuando se levantó. 36 Así fue como ellas quedaron embarazadas por parte de su padre. 37 Cuando la hija mayor tuvo su hijo, le puso por nombre Moab, y de él descienden los moabitas de hoy. 38 También la hija menor tuvo un hijo, y le puso por nombre Ben-amí; de él descienden los amonitas de hoy.

19 Die zwei Engel kamen gen Sodom des Abends; Lot aber saß zu Sodom unter dem Tor. Und da er sie sah, stand er auf, ihnen entgegen, und bückte sich mit seinem Angesicht zur Erde
2 und sprach: Siehe, liebe Herren, kehrt doch ein zum Hause eures Knechtes und bleibt über Nacht; laßt eure Füße waschen, so steht ihr morgens früh auf und zieht eure Straße. Aber sie sprachen: Nein, sondern wir wollen über Nacht auf der Gasse bleiben.
3 Da nötigte er sie sehr; und sie kehrten zu ihm ein und kamen in sein Haus. Und er machte ihnen ein Mahl und buk ungesäuerte Kuchen; und sie aßen.
4 Aber ehe sie sich legten, kamen die Leute der Stadt Sodom und umgaben das ganze Haus, jung und alt, das ganze Volk aus allen Enden,
5 und forderten Lot und sprachen zu ihm: Wo sind die Männer, die zu dir gekommen sind diese Nacht? Führe sie heraus zu uns, daß wir sie erkennen.
6 Lot ging heraus zu ihnen vor die Tür und schloß die Tür hinter sich zu
7 und sprach: Ach, liebe Brüder, tut nicht so übel!
8 Siehe, ich habe zwei Töchter, die haben noch keinen Mann erkannt, die will ich herausgeben unter euch, und tut mit ihnen, was euch gefällt; allein diesen Männern tut nichts, denn darum sind sie unter den Schatten meines Daches eingegangen.
9 Sie aber sprachen: Geh hinweg! und sprachen auch: Du bist der einzige Fremdling hier und willst regieren? Wohlan, wir wollen dich übler plagen denn jene. Und sie drangen hart auf den Mann Lot. Und da sie hinzuliefen und wollten die Tür aufbrechen,
10 griffen die Männer hinaus und zogen Lot hinein zu sich ins Haus und schlossen die Tür zu.
11 Und die Männer vor der Tür wurden mit Blindheit geschlagen, klein und groß, bis sie müde wurden und die Tür nicht finden konnten.
12 Und die Männer sprachen zu Lot: Hast du noch irgend hier einen Eidam und Söhne und Töchter, und wer dir angehört in der Stadt, den führe aus dieser Stätte.
13 Denn wir werden diese Stätte verderben, darum daß ihr Geschrei groß ist vor dem HERRN; der hat uns gesandt, sie zu verderben.
14 Da ging Lot hinaus und redete mit seinen Eidamen, die seine Töchter nehmen sollten: Macht euch auf und geht aus diesem Ort; denn der HERR wird diese Stadt verderben. Aber es war ihnen lächerlich.
15 Da nun die Morgenröte aufging, hießen die Engel den Lot eilen und sprachen: Mache dich auf, nimm dein Weib und deine zwei Töchter, die vorhanden sind, daß du nicht auch umkommst in der Missetat dieser Stadt.
16 Da er aber verzog, ergriffen die Männer ihn und sein Weib und seine zwei Töchter bei der Hand, darum daß der HERR ihn verschonte, und führten ihn hinaus und ließen ihn draußen vor der Stadt.
17 Und als sie ihn hatten hinausgebracht, sprach er: Errette dein Seele und sieh nicht hinter dich; auch stehe nicht in dieser ganzen Gegend. Auf den Berg rette dich, daß du nicht umkommst.
18 Aber Lot sprach zu ihnen: Ach nein, Herr!
19 Siehe, dieweil dein Knecht Gnade gefunden hat vor deinen Augen, so wollest du deine Barmherzigkeit groß machen, die du an mir getan hast, daß du meine Seele am Leben erhieltest. Ich kann mich nicht auf den Berg retten; es möchte mich ein Unfall ankommen, daß ich stürbe.
20 Siehe, da ist eine Stadt nahe, darein ich fliehen kann, und sie ist klein; dahin will ich mich retten (ist sie doch klein), daß meine Seele lebendig bleibe.
21 Da sprach er zu ihm: Siehe, ich habe auch in diesem Stück dich angesehen, daß ich die Stadt nicht umkehre, von der du geredet hast.
22 Eile und rette dich dahin; denn ich kann nichts tun, bis daß du hineinkommst. Daher ist diese Stadt genannt Zoar.
23 Und die Sonne war aufgegangen auf Erden, da Lot nach Zoar kam.
24 Da ließ der HERR Schwefel und Feuer regnen von Himmel herab auf Sodom und Gomorra
25 und kehrte die Städte um und die ganze Gegend und alle Einwohner der Städte und was auf dem Lande gewachsen war.
26 Und sein Weib sah hinter sich und ward zur Salzsäule.
27 Abraham aber machte sich des Morgens früh auf an den Ort, da er gestanden vor dem HERRN,
28 und wandte sein Angesicht gegen Sodom und Gomorra und alles Land der Gegend und schaute; und siehe, da ging Rauch auf vom Lande wie ein Rauch vom Ofen.
29 Und es geschah, da Gott die Städte in der Gegend verderbte, gedachte er an den Abraham und geleitete Lot aus den Städten, die er umkehrte, darin Lot wohnte.
30 Und Lot zog aus Zoar und blieb auf dem Berge mit seinen beiden Töchtern; denn er fürchtete sich, zu Zoar zu bleiben; und blieb also in einer Höhle mit seinen beiden Töchtern.
31 Da sprach die ältere zu der jüngeren: Unser Vater ist alt, und ist kein Mann mehr auf Erden der zu uns eingehen möge nach aller Welt Weise;
32 so komm, laß uns unserm Vater Wein zu trinken geben und bei ihm schlafen, daß wir Samen von unserm Vater erhalten.
33 Also gaben sie ihrem Vater Wein zu trinken in derselben Nacht. Und die erste ging hinein und legte sich zu ihrem Vater; und der ward's nicht gewahr, da sie sich legte noch da sie aufstand.
34 Des Morgens sprach die ältere zu der jüngeren: Siehe, ich habe gestern bei meinem Vater gelegen. Laß uns ihm diese Nacht auch Wein zu trinken geben, daß du hineingehst und legst dich zu ihm, daß wir Samen von unserm Vater erhalten.
35 Also gaben sie ihrem Vater die Nacht auch Wein zu trinken. Und die jüngere machte sich auf und legte sich zu ihm; und er ward's nicht gewahr, da sie sich legte noch da sie aufstand.
36 Also wurden beide Töchter Lots schwanger von ihrem Vater.
37 Und die ältere gebar einen Sohn, den nannte sie Moab. Von dem kommen her die Moabiter bis auf den heutigen Tag.
38 Und die jüngere gebar auch einen Sohn, den hieß sie das Kind Ammi. Von dem kommen die Kinder Ammon bis auf den heutigen Tag.

Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed
19 The two angels(A) arrived at Sodom(B) in the evening, and Lot(C) was sitting in the gateway of the city.(D) When he saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face to the ground.(E) 2 “My lords,” he said, “please turn aside to your servant’s house. You can wash your feet(F) and spend the night and then go on your way early in the morning.”
“No,” they answered, “we will spend the night in the square.”(G)
3 But he insisted(H) so strongly that they did go with him and entered his house.(I) He prepared a meal for them, baking bread without yeast,(J) and they ate.(K) 4 Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom(L)—both young and old—surrounded the house. 5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”(M)
6 Lot went outside to meet them(N) and shut the door behind him 7 and said, “No, my friends. Don’t do this wicked thing. 8 Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof.”(O)
9 “Get out of our way,” they replied. “This fellow came here as a foreigner,(P) and now he wants to play the judge!(Q) We’ll treat you worse than them.” They kept bringing pressure on Lot and moved forward to break down the door.
10 But the men(R) inside reached out and pulled Lot back into the house and shut the door. 11 Then they struck the men who were at the door of the house, young and old, with blindness(S) so that they could not find the door.
12 The two men said to Lot, “Do you have anyone else here—sons-in-law, sons or daughters, or anyone else in the city who belongs to you?(T) Get them out of here, 13 because we(U) are going to destroy this place. The outcry to the Lord against its people is so great(V) that he has sent us to destroy it.”(W)
14 So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry[a] his daughters. He said, “Hurry and get out of this place, because the Lord is about to destroy the city!(X)” But his sons-in-law thought he was joking.(Y)
15 With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away(Z) when the city is punished.(AA)”
16 When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters(AB) and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them.(AC) 17 As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives!(AD) Don’t look back,(AE) and don’t stop anywhere in the plain!(AF) Flee to the mountains(AG) or you will be swept away!”
18 But Lot said to them, “No, my lords,[b] please! 19 Your[c] servant has found favor in your[d] eyes,(AH) and you[e] have shown great kindness(AI) to me in sparing my life. But I can’t flee to the mountains;(AJ) this disaster will overtake me, and I’ll die. 20 Look, here is a town near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me flee to it—it is very small, isn’t it? Then my life will be spared.”
21 He said to him, “Very well, I will grant this request(AK) too; I will not overthrow the town you speak of. 22 But flee there quickly, because I cannot do anything until you reach it.” (That is why the town was called Zoar.[f](AL))
23 By the time Lot reached Zoar,(AM) the sun had risen over the land. 24 Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur(AN) on Sodom and Gomorrah(AO)—from the Lord out of the heavens.(AP) 25 Thus he overthrew those cities(AQ) and the entire plain,(AR) destroying all those living in the cities—and also the vegetation in the land.(AS) 26 But Lot’s wife looked back,(AT) and she became a pillar of salt.(AU)
27 Early the next morning Abraham got up and returned to the place where he had stood before the Lord.(AV) 28 He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah, toward all the land of the plain, and he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace.(AW)
29 So when God destroyed the cities of the plain,(AX) he remembered(AY) Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe(AZ) that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.(BA)
Lot and His Daughters
30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar(BB) and settled in the mountains,(BC) for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let’s get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line(BD) through our father.”(BE)
33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.(BF)
34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.”(BG) 35 So they got their father to drink wine(BH) that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.(BI)
36 So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.(BJ) 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab[g];(BK) he is the father of the Moabites(BL) of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi[h]; he is the father of the Ammonites[i](BM) of today.
