²⁵ “And you, Ezra, according to the wisdom of your God that is in your hand, ^(A)appoint magistrates and judges who may judge all the people in the province Beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God. ^(B)And those who do not know them, you shall teach.

¹⁰ For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it ^(A)and to ^(B)teach his statutes and rules in Israel.

Justice

¹⁸ “You shall appoint ^(A)judges and officers in all your towns that the Lord your God is giving you, according to your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

⁷ For ^(A)the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people^[a] should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

¹⁷ But ^(A)the wisdom from above is first pure, then ^(B)peaceable, gentle, open to reason, ^(C)full of mercy and good fruits, ^(D)impartial and ^(E)sincere. ¹⁸ And ^(F)a harvest of righteousness ^(G)is sown in peace by those who make peace.

^5 (A)If any of you lacks wisdom, ^(B)let him ask God, ^(C)who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

¹⁴ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him ^(A)of whom they have never heard?^[a] And how are they to hear ^(B)without someone preaching? ¹⁵ And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ^(C)“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” ¹⁶ But ^(D)they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, ^(E)“Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” ¹⁷ So ^(F)faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

³⁴ When he went ashore he ^(A)saw a great crowd, and ^(B)he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.

^2 (A)“The scribes and the Pharisees ^(B)sit on Moses' seat, ³ so do and observe whatever they tell you, ^(C)but not the works they do. ^(D)For they preach, but do not practice.
