²⁰ And mighty kings have been over Jerusalem, ^(A)who ruled over the whole province Beyond the River, to whom ^(B)tribute, custom, and toll were paid.

^{21 [a] (A)}Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the ^(B)Euphrates^[b] to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt. ^(C)They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.

¹⁸ On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, ^(A)“To your offspring I give^[a] this land, from ^(B)the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,

³ David also defeated ^(A)Hadadezer king of ^(B)Zobah-Hamath, as he went to set up his monument^[a] at the river Euphrates.

²⁴ We also notify you that it shall not be lawful to impose ^(A)tribute, custom, or toll on anyone of the priests, the Levites, the singers, the doorkeepers, the temple servants, or other servants of this house of God.

¹⁶ We make known to the king that if this city is rebuilt and its walls finished, you will then have no possession in the province Beyond the River.”

¹³ Now be it known to the king that if this city is rebuilt and the walls finished, they will not pay ^(A)tribute, custom, or toll, and the royal revenue will be impaired.

⁷ God helped him ^(A)against the Philistines and against the Arabians who lived in Gurbaal and against the ^(B)Meunites. ⁸ The Ammonites ^(C)paid tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread even to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong.

¹¹ Some of the Philistines ^(A)brought Jehoshaphat presents and silver for tribute, and the Arabians also brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats.
