Blessing on Israel
36 And you, mortal, prophesy to the mountains of Israel, and say: O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord. 2 Thus says the Lord God: Because the enemy said of you, “Aha!” and, “The ancient heights have become our possession,” 3 therefore prophesy, and say: Thus says the Lord God: Because they made you desolate indeed, and crushed you from all sides, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you became an object of gossip and slander among the people; 4 therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, the watercourses and the valleys, the desolate wastes and the deserted towns, which have become a source of plunder and an object of derision to the rest of the nations all around; 5 therefore thus says the Lord God: I am speaking in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who, with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, took my land as their possession, because of its pasture, to plunder it. 6 Therefore prophesy concerning the land of Israel, and say to the mountains and hills, to the watercourses and valleys, Thus says the Lord God: I am speaking in my jealous wrath, because you have suffered the insults of the nations; 7 therefore thus says the Lord God: I swear that the nations that are all around you shall themselves suffer insults.
8 But you, O mountains of Israel, shall shoot out your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Israel; for they shall soon come home. 9 See now, I am for you; I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown; 10 and I will multiply your population, the whole house of Israel, all of it; the towns shall be inhabited and the waste places rebuilt; 11 and I will multiply human beings and animals upon you. They shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited as in your former times, and will do more good to you than ever before. Then you shall know that I am the Lord. 12 I will lead people upon you—my people Israel—and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance. No longer shall you bereave them of children.
13 Thus says the Lord God: Because they say to you, “You devour people, and you bereave your nation of children,” 14 therefore you shall no longer devour people and no longer bereave your nation of children, says the Lord God; 15 and no longer will I let you hear the insults of the nations, no longer shall you bear the disgrace of the peoples; and no longer shall you cause your nation to stumble, says the Lord God.
The Renewal of Israel
16 The word of the Lord came to me: 17 Mortal, when the house of Israel lived on their own soil, they defiled it with their ways and their deeds; their conduct in my sight was like the uncleanness of a woman in her menstrual period. 18 So I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for the idols with which they had defiled it. 19 I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries; in accordance with their conduct and their deeds I judged them. 20 But when they came to the nations, wherever they came, they profaned my holy name, in that it was said of them, “These are the people of the Lord, and yet they had to go out of his land.” 21 But I had concern for my holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they came.
22 Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord God: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. 23 I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord, says the Lord God, when through you I display my holiness before their eyes. 24 I will take you from the nations, and gather you from all the countries, and bring you into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put my spirit within you, and make you follow my statutes and be careful to observe my ordinances. 28 Then you shall live in the land that I gave to your ancestors; and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleannesses, and I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you. 30 I will make the fruit of the tree and the produce of the field abundant, so that you may never again suffer the disgrace of famine among the nations. 31 Then you shall remember your evil ways, and your dealings that were not good; and you shall loathe yourselves for your iniquities and your abominable deeds. 32 It is not for your sake that I will act, says the Lord God; let that be known to you. Be ashamed and dismayed for your ways, O house of Israel.
33 Thus says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the towns to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. 34 The land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by. 35 And they will say, “This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined towns are now inhabited and fortified.” 36 Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt the ruined places, and replanted that which was desolate; I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do it.
37 Thus says the Lord God: I will also let the house of Israel ask me to do this for them: to increase their population like a flock. 38 Like the flock for sacrifices,[a] like the flock at Jerusalem during her appointed festivals, so shall the ruined towns be filled with flocks of people. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.

4 o monti d’Israele, ascoltate la parola del Signore, Dio!” – così parla il Signore, Dio, ai monti e ai colli, ai burroni e alle valli, alle rovine desolate e alle città abbandonate, che sono state date in balìa del saccheggio e delle beffe delle altre nazioni circostanti –

8 ma voi, o monti d’Israele, metterete i vostri rami e porterete i vostri frutti al mio popolo Israele, perché egli sta per arrivare.
9 Infatti, ecco, io vengo a voi, mi volgerò verso di voi e voi sarete coltivati e seminati;
10 io moltiplicherò su di voi gli uomini, tutta quanta la casa d’Israele; le città saranno abitate e le rovine saranno ricostruite.
11 Moltiplicherò su di voi uomini e bestie; essi si moltiplicheranno e cresceranno e farò in modo che sarete abitati com’eravate prima; vi farò del bene più che nei vostri primi tempi, e voi conoscerete che io sono il Signore.
12 Io farò camminare su di voi degli uomini, il mio popolo Israele. Essi ti possederanno, o paese; tu sarai la loro eredità e non li priverai più dei loro figli”.
13 Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Poiché vi si dice: ‘Tu, o paese, hai divorato gli uomini, hai privato la tua nazione dei suoi figli’,
14 tu non divorerai più gli uomini, e non priverai più la tua nazione dei suoi figli”, dice il Signore, Dio.
15 “Io non ti farò più udire gli oltraggi delle nazioni, e tu non porterai più il disprezzo dei popoli, e non farai più cadere la tua gente”, dice il Signore, Dio».
16 (B)La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

22 (C)«Perciò, di’ alla casa d’Israele: Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Io agisco così, non a causa di voi, o casa d’Israele, ma per amore del mio nome santo, che voi avete profanato fra le nazioni dove siete andati. 23 Io santificherò il mio gran nome che è stato profanato fra le nazioni, in mezzo alle quali voi lo avete profanato; e le nazioni conosceranno che io sono il Signore”, dice il Signore, Dio, “quando io mi santificherò in voi, sotto i loro occhi. 24 Io vi farò uscire dalle nazioni, vi radunerò da tutti i paesi e vi ricondurrò nel vostro paese; 25 vi aspergerò d’acqua pura e sarete puri; io vi purificherò di tutte le vostre impurità e di tutti i vostri idoli. 26 Vi darò un cuore nuovo e metterò dentro di voi uno spirito nuovo; toglierò dal vostro corpo il cuore di pietra e vi darò un cuore di carne. 27 Metterò dentro di voi il mio Spirito e farò in modo che camminiate secondo le mie leggi, e osserviate e mettiate in pratica le mie prescrizioni. 28 Abiterete nel paese che io diedi ai vostri padri, sarete il mio popolo, e io sarò il vostro Dio. 29 Io vi libererò da tutte le vostre impurità; chiamerò il frumento, lo farò abbondare e non manderò più contro di voi la fame; 30 farò moltiplicare il frutto degli alberi e il prodotto dei campi, affinché non siate più esposti alla vergogna della fame tra le nazioni. 31 Allora vi ricorderete delle vostre vie malvagie e delle vostre azioni, che non erano buone, e avrete disgusto di voi stessi a motivo delle vostre iniquità e delle vostre abominazioni. 32 Non è per amor di voi che agisco così”, dice il Signore, Dio, “siatene certi! Vergognatevi, e siate confusi a motivo delle vostre vie, o casa d’Israele!”
33 Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Il giorno che io vi purificherò di tutte le vostre iniquità, farò in modo che le città siano abitate e le rovine siano ricostruite; 34 la terra desolata sarà coltivata, invece di essere una desolazione agli occhi di tutti i passanti. 35 Si dirà: ‘Questa terra che era desolata è diventata come il giardino di Eden; e queste città che erano deserte, desolate, rovinate, sono fortificate e abitate’. 36 Le nazioni che saranno rimaste attorno a voi conosceranno che io, il Signore, ho ricostruito i luoghi distrutti e ripiantato il luogo deserto. Io, il Signore, parlo e mando la cosa ad effetto”.
37 Così parla il Signore, Dio: “Anche in questo mi lascerò supplicare dalla casa d’Israele, e glielo concederò: io moltiplicherò loro gli uomini come un gregge. 38 Come greggi di pecore consacrate, come le greggi di Gerusalemme nelle sue feste solenni, così le città deserte saranno riempite di greggi d’uomini; e si conoscerà che io sono il Signore”».

36 Du aber, Menschensohn, weissage über die Berge Israels und sprich: Ihr Berge Israels, hört das Wort des Herrn!
2 So spricht Gott, der Herr: Weil der Feind über euch gesprochen hat: »Ha! Ha! Die ewigen Höhen sind unser Besitz geworden!«,
3 so weissage nun und sprich: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Darum, ja, darum, weil man euch verwüstet und von allen Seiten nach euch geschnappt hat, sodass ihr den übrigen Völkern zum Besitz geworden seid, und weil ihr ins Gerede der Zungen gekommen und zum Geschwätz der Leute geworden seid —
4 darum, o ihr Berge Israels, hört das Wort Gottes, des Herrn! So spricht Gott, der Herr, zu den Bergen und Hügeln, zu den Gründen und Tälern, zu den öden Trümmern und verlassenen Städten, die den übrigen Heidenvölkern ringsum zum Raub und zum Gespött geworden sind;
5 ja, darum spricht Gott, der Herr, so: Fürwahr, in meinem feurigen Eifer rede ich gegen die übrigen Heidenvölker und gegen ganz Edom, die mein Land in Besitz genommen haben und die sich von ganzem Herzen und mit übermütiger Verachtung gefreut haben, sie auszustoßen und zu berauben.
6 Darum weissage über das Land Israel und sprich zu den Bergen und Hügeln, zu den Gründen und Tälern: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Seht, in meinem Eifer und in meinem grimmigen Zorn rede ich, weil ihr Schmach vonseiten der Heidenvölker erlitten habt.
7 Darum, so spricht Gott, der Herr: Ich hebe meine Hand auf [zum Schwur], dass die Völker, die um euch her liegen, ihre eigene Schmach tragen sollen!
8 Ihr aber, ihr Berge Israels, lasst eure Zweige sprossen und tragt eure Frucht für mein Volk Israel; denn sie sollen bald heimkehren!
9 Denn siehe, ich komme zu euch und wende mich euch wieder zu, und ihr sollt angebaut und besät werden!
10 Ich will viele Menschen auf euch wohnen lassen, das ganze Haus Israel, sie alle; die Städte sollen bewohnt und die Trümmer aufgebaut werden.
11 Ich will Menschen und Vieh auf euch zahlreich machen, und sie werden sich mehren und fruchtbar sein; ich will euch bevölkern wie in alten Zeiten und euch mehr Gutes erweisen als je zuvor; und ihr sollt erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin!
12 Und ich will Menschen auf euch wandeln lassen, nämlich mein Volk Israel; die sollen dich besitzen, und du sollst ihr Erbteil sein und sie künftig nicht mehr der Kinder berauben!
13 So spricht Gott, der Herr: Weil sie zu euch sagen: »Du warst eine Menschenfresserin und hast dein Volk der Kinder beraubt!«,
14 so sollst du künftig keine Menschen mehr fressen und dein Volk nicht mehr zu Fall bringen, spricht Gott, der Herr.
15 Ich will dich künftig nicht mehr die Schmähungen der Heiden hören lassen, und den Hohn der Völker sollst du nicht mehr tragen und dein Volk nicht mehr zu Fall bringen, spricht Gott, der Herr.
16 Und das Wort des Herrn erging an mich folgendermaßen:
17 Menschensohn, als das Haus Israel in seinem Land wohnte und sie es mit ihrem Weg und mit ihren Taten verunreinigten, sodass ihr Weg vor mir war wie die Unreinheit einer Frau in ihrer Monatsblutung,
18 da goss ich meinen Zorn über sie aus wegen des Blutes, das sie im Land vergossen hatten, und weil sie es durch ihre Götzen verunreinigt hatten.
19 Ich zerstreute sie unter die Heidenvölker, und sie wurden in die Länder versprengt; ich richtete sie entsprechend ihrem Weg und entsprechend ihren Taten.
20 Als sie nun unter die Heidenvölker kamen, wohin sie gezogen waren, da entweihten sie meinen heiligen Namen, indem man von ihnen sagte: »Das ist das Volk des Herrn; die mussten aus seinem Land ausziehen!«
21 Da tat es mir leid um meinen heiligen Namen, den das Haus Israel entweiht hatte unter den Heidenvölkern, zu denen es gekommen ist.
22 Darum sprich zu dem Haus Israel: So spricht Gott, der Herr: Nicht um euretwillen tue ich dies, Haus Israel, sondern wegen meines heiligen Namens, den ihr entweiht habt unter den Heidenvölkern, zu denen ihr gekommen seid.
23 Darum will ich meinen großen Namen wieder heilig machen, der vor den Heidenvölkern entheiligt worden ist, den ihr unter ihnen entheiligt habt! Und die Heidenvölker sollen erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin, spricht Gott, der Herr, wenn ich mich vor ihren Augen an euch heilig erweisen werde.
24 Denn ich will euch aus den Heidenvölkern herausholen und aus allen Ländern sammeln und euch wieder in euer Land bringen.
25 Und ich will reines Wasser über euch sprengen, und ihr werdet rein sein; von aller eurer Unreinheit und von allen euren Götzen will ich euch reinigen.
26 Und ich will euch ein neues Herz geben und einen neuen Geist in euer Inneres legen; ich will das steinerne Herz aus eurem Fleisch wegnehmen und euch ein fleischernes Herz geben;
27 ja, ich will meinen Geist in euer Inneres legen und werde bewirken, dass ihr in meinen Satzungen wandelt und meine Rechtsbestimmungen befolgt und tut.
28 Und ihr sollt in dem Land wohnen, das ich euren Vätern gegeben habe, und ihr sollt mein Volk sein, und ich will euer Gott sein.
29 Und ich will euch befreien von allen euren Unreinheiten, und ich will dem Korn rufen und es vermehren und keine Hungersnot mehr über euch kommen lassen.
30 Ich will auch die Früchte der Bäume und den Ertrag des Feldes vermehren, damit ihr künftig nicht mehr die Schmach des Hungers unter den Heidenvölkern tragen müsst.
31 Dann werdet ihr an eure bösen Wege gedenken und an eure Taten, die nicht gut waren, und ihr werdet vor euch selbst Abscheu empfinden wegen eurer Sünden und wegen eurer Gräuel.
32 Nicht euretwegen werde ich dies tun, spricht Gott, der Herr, das sollt ihr wissen! Schämt euch und errötet über eure Wege, ihr vom Haus Israel!
33 So spricht Gott, der Herr: Zu jener Zeit, wenn ich euch reinigen werde von allen euren Missetaten, da will ich [euch] wieder in den Städten wohnen lassen, und die Trümmer sollen wieder aufgebaut werden.
34 Und das verwüstete Land soll wieder bearbeitet werden, nachdem es zuvor verwüstet dalag vor den Augen aller, die vorübergingen.
35 Dann wird man sagen: »Dieses verwüstete Land ist wie der Garten Eden geworden, und die Städte, die [einst] verödet, verwüstet und zerstört waren, sind [nun] befestigt und bewohnt!«
36 Und die Heidenvölker, die rings um euch her übrig geblieben sind, sollen erkennen, dass ich, der Herr, es bin, der das Abgebrochene aufbaut und das Verwüstete bepflanzt. Ich, der Herr, habe es gesagt und werde es auch tun!
37 So spricht Gott, der Herr: Auch deswegen will ich mich vom Haus Israel noch erbitten lassen, dass ich es für sie tue: Ich will sie an Menschen so zahlreich werden lassen wie eine Schafherde.
38 Wie die Schafherden des Heiligtums, wie die Schafherden in Jerusalem an ihren Festen, so sollen auch die verödeten Städte voll Menschenherden werden; und sie werden erkennen, dass ich der Herr bin!

2 Így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Mivel az ellenség hahotázva mondta rólatok: Az ősi halmok a mi birtokunkba kerültek! -
3 ezért prófétálj, és mondd: Így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Mivel a vesztetekre törnek mindenfelől, hogy a többi nép birtokává legyetek, és mivel rágalmakat terjesztő népek szájára kerültetek,
4 azért, Izráel hegyei, halljátok az én Uramnak, az Úrnak igéjét! Ezt mondja az én Uram, az Úr a hegyeknek és a halmoknak, a medreknek és a völgyeknek, az elpusztult romoknak és az elhagyatott városoknak, amelyeket a körülöttük élő többi nép prédált és gúnyolt,
5 ezért tehát így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Heves indulatomban beszélek a többi nép ellen és egész Edóm ellen, akik birtokba vették országomat kárörvendő szívvel és megvető lélekkel, hogy elnéptelenítsék és fölprédálják.
6 Ezért prófétálj Izráel földjéről, mondd a hegyeknek és a halmoknak, a medreknek és a völgyeknek: Így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Haragos indulatomban beszélek, mert a népek gyalázkodását kellett eltűrnötök.
7 Ezért így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Fölemelt kézzel teszek esküt, hogy majd a körülöttetek élő népeknek kell eltűrniük, hogy gyalázzák őket!
8 Rajtatok pedig, Izráel hegyei, ágak sarjadnak, és gyümölcs terem népemnek, Izráelnek, mert hamarosan hazatérnek.
9 Mert én mellettetek vagyok, és felétek fordulok: megművelnek és bevetnek titeket.
10 Megszaporítom rajtatok az embereket, Izráel egész házát, városaitok benépesülnek, a romok újjáépülnek.

22 Ezért mondd ezt Izráel házának: Így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Nem tiértetek cselekszem én, Izráel háza, hanem szent nevemért, amelyet gyalázatossá tettetek a népek között, amerre csak jártatok.
23 Megmutatom, hogy szent az én nagy nevem, amely gyalázatos lett a népek között, mert gyalázatossá tettétek közöttük. Akkor megtudják a népek, hogy én vagyok az Úr - így szól az én Uram, az Úr -, amikor szemük láttára megmutatom rajtatok, hogy szent vagyok.
24 Kihozlak benneteket a népek közül, összegyűjtelek az országokból, és beviszlek benneteket a saját földetekre.
25 Tiszta vizet hintek rátok, hogy megtisztuljatok. Minden tisztátalanságotoktól és minden bálványotoktól megtisztítlak benneteket.
26 Új szívet adok nektek, és új lelket adok belétek: eltávolítom testetekből a kőszívet, és hússzívet adok nektek.
27 Az én lelkemet adom belétek, és azt művelem veletek, hogy rendelkezéseim szerint éljetek, törvényeimet megtartsátok és teljesítsétek.
28 Abban az országban fogtok lakni, amelyet őseiteknek adtam. Az én népem lesztek, én pedig Istenetek leszek.
29 Megszabadítlak benneteket minden tisztátalanságotoktól. Parancsolok a gabonának, megsokasítom, és nem hozok rátok éhínséget.
30 Megszaporítom a fák gyümölcsét és a mező termését, hogy ne csúfoljanak többé benneteket éhínség miatt a népek.
31 Akkor visszagondoltok arra, hogy milyen gonoszul éltetek, és milyen rosszak voltak tetteitek, és megundorodtok magatoktól utálatos bűneitek miatt.
32 Nem tiértetek cselekszem - így szól az én Uram, az Úr -, tudjátok meg ezt! Szégyenkezzetek, és piruljatok életetek miatt, Izráel háza!
33 Így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Amikor megtisztítlak benneteket minden bűnötöktől, benépesítem a városokat, és újjáépülnek a romok.
34 Művelni fogják a pusztává lett földet, azután, hogy pusztán hevert az arra járók szeme láttára.
35 Azt mondják majd: Ez a pusztává lett föld itt most olyan, mint az Éden kertje. A rommá lett, elpusztult és lerombolt városokat pedig újból megerősítették, és újból laknak bennük.
36 Akkor megtudják a népek, amelyek körülöttetek megmaradtak, hogy én, az Úr, építettem újjá a romba dőlt városokat, és én ültettem be a pusztává lett földet. Én, az Úr, megmondtam, és meg is teszem!
37 Így szól az én Uram, az Úr: Még azt is kérheti tőlem Izráel háza, hogy ezt tegyem velük: úgy megsokasítom az embereket, mint a juhokat.
38 Úgy tele lesznek a romba dőlt városok emberek tömegével, ahogyan Jeruzsálem tele van az ünnepeken juhokkal, áldozatra szentelt juhokkal. Akkor megtudják, hogy én vagyok az Úr.

36 Et toi, fils d’homme, prophétise, parle aux montagnes d’Israël et dis : « Montagnes d’Israël, écoutez la parole de l’Eternel ! 2 Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Parce que l’ennemi s’est écrié à votre propos : “Ha, ha ! Ces vieilles montagnes sont à nous maintenant !”, 3 à cause de cela, prophétise et dis-leur : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Puisque, de toutes parts, on vous a dévastées, on vous a convoitées, pour que vous deveniez la possession des autres nations, puisque l’on a tenu sur vous des propos injurieux, 4 à cause de cela, montagnes d’Israël, écoutez la parole du Seigneur, l’Eternel : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel, aux montagnes et aux collines, aux cours d’eau, aux vallons, aux ruines désolées et aux villes abandonnées qui ont été pillées par les peuples des alentours et qui sont devenues l’objet de leurs sarcasmes.
5 A cause de cela, voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Oui, avec une vive indignation, j’adresse des menaces aux autres peuples, et à Edom tout entier car, le cœur tout joyeux et le mépris dans l’âme, ils se sont tous attribué mon pays comme possession pour en piller les pâturages. 6 A cause de cela, va, prophétise au sujet du pays d’Israël, dis aux montagnes et aux collines, aux cours d’eau, aux vallées : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Avec colère et fureur, je prononce ma sentence, parce que les autres peuples vous ont chargés d’opprobre. 7 C’est pourquoi le Seigneur, l’Eternel, parle ainsi : J’en ai fait le serment : les peuples d’alentour seront chargés aussi du poids de leur opprobre.
Le retour des exilés
8 Tandis que vous, montagnes d’Israël, vous pousserez votre ramure et vous porterez votre fruit pour mon peuple Israël, car son retour est proche. 9 Je vais m’occuper de vous, je me tournerai vers vous, vous serez de nouveau cultivées et ensemencées, 10 et je multiplierai sur votre sol les hommes, la communauté d’Israël dans sa totalité. Les villes seront habitées, les ruines seront rebâties. 11 Je ferai abonder sur vous les hommes et les bêtes, ils seront très nombreux et se multiplieront, je vous repeuplerai comme vous l’étiez autrefois, et je vous ferai plus de bien qu’auparavant, et vous reconnaîtrez que je suis l’Eternel. 12 Je ferai parcourir votre sol par des hommes de mon peuple Israël, ils te posséderont, ô pays d’Israël, et tu seras leur patrimoine, et tu ne les priveras plus de leurs enfants.
13 Voici ce que te dit le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Il en est qui prétendent que toi, tu dévores les hommes, et que tu prives ton peuple de ses enfants. 14 Eh bien, tu ne dévoreras plus d’hommes, tu ne priveras plus ton peuple de ses enfants. C’est là ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel. 15 Je ne te ferai plus entendre les propos injurieux des autres peuples, tu ne seras plus chargé d’opprobre par eux, et tu ne feras plus trébucher ton propre peuple. C’est là ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel. »
16 L’Eternel m’adressa la parole en ces termes :
17 Fils d’homme, lorsque les gens de la communauté d’Israël habitaient dans leur propre pays, ils l’ont rendu impur par leur manière de vivre et leurs actes ; leur conduite était en effet aussi impure à mes yeux que l’impureté menstruelle. 18 J’ai répandu ma fureur contre eux à cause des crimes qu’ils avaient commis dans le pays et parce qu’ils avaient rendu leur pays impur par leurs idoles infâmes. 19 Je les ai dispersés parmi les autres peuples, ils ont été disséminés en divers pays. J’ai exercé sur eux le jugement que méritaient leur conduite et leurs actes. 20 Et lorsqu’ils sont arrivés chez les peuples parmi lesquelles ils ont été bannis, ils m’ont profané, moi qui suis saint. En effet, on disait à leur sujet : « Ces gens-là sont le peuple de l’Eternel, mais ils ont dû sortir de son pays ! »
21 Alors j’ai eu égard à ma sainte personne que la communauté d’Israël a profanée parmi les peuples chez qui elle s’est rendue. 22 C’est pourquoi, dis à la communauté d’Israël : « Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Si je vais intervenir, ce n’est pas à cause de vous que je le fais, ô communauté d’Israël, mais c’est par égard pour moi-même, moi qui suis saint et que vous avez profané parmi les peuples chez lesquels vous êtes allés. 23 Je démontrerai ma sainteté, moi qui ai été profané parmi les autres peuples par votre faute, et ces peuples reconnaîtront que je suis l’Eternel – le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare – quand je ferai éclater ma sainteté à leurs yeux par mon œuvre envers vous. 24 Je vous ferai revenir de chez les autres peuples, je vous rassemblerai de tous les pays étrangers et je vous ramènerai dans votre pays.
La purification opérée par l’Esprit
25 Je répandrai sur vous une eau pure, afin que vous deveniez purs, je vous purifierai de toutes vos souillures et de toutes vos idoles. 26 Je vous donnerai un cœur nouveau et je mettrai en vous un esprit nouveau, j’enlèverai de votre être votre cœur de pierre et je vous donnerai un cœur de chair. 27 Je mettrai en vous mon propre Esprit et je ferai de vous des gens qui vivent selon mes lois et qui obéissent à mes commandements pour les appliquer.
28 Vous demeurerez dans le pays que j’ai donné à vos ancêtres et vous serez mon peuple, et moi je serai votre Dieu. 29 Je vous délivrerai de toutes vos impuretés, je commanderai au blé de pousser, je le ferai abonder, et je ne vous enverrai plus la famine. 30 Je multiplierai les fruits des arbres et les productions des champs pour que, jamais plus, les autres peuples ne se moquent de vous parce que vous souffrez de la famine.
31 Vous vous souviendrez alors de votre mauvaise conduite et de vos actes peu louables, et vous vous prendrez vous-mêmes en dégoût à cause de vos fautes et de vos pratiques abominables.
32 Mais, sachez-le bien, ce n’est pas à cause de vous que j’agis de la sorte, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare. O communauté d’Israël, ayez honte de votre conduite et rougissez-en !
33 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Le jour où je vous purifierai de tous vos péchés, je repeuplerai vos villes et l’on rebâtira ce qui est en ruine. 34 Au lieu d’offrir l’image de la désolation à tous les passants, la terre dévastée sera de nouveau cultivée. 35 Et l’on dira : “Voyez-vous, ce pays, jadis dévasté, est devenu comme un jardin d’Eden[a], et les villes dévastées et démolies, qui n’étaient plus que des ruines, sont à présent fortifiées et repeuplées.” 36 Alors les peuples qui auront subsisté autour de vous reconnaîtront que c’est moi, l’Eternel, qui ai rebâti ce qui était démoli et replanté ce qui était dévasté. Moi, l’Eternel, je l’ai promis et je le réaliserai.
37 Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l’Eternel : Une fois encore, je me laisserai fléchir par la communauté d’Israël pour agir en sa faveur : je les multiplierai comme un troupeau d’hommes. 38 Les villes, aujourd’hui en ruine, seront remplies de troupeaux d’hommes, tout comme Jérusalem qui, lors de ses fêtes cultuelles, fourmille d’animaux consacrés ; et l’on reconnaîtra que je suis l’Eternel. »
