^7 (A)But the house of Israel will not be willing to listen to you, for they are not willing to listen to me: because all the house of Israel ^(B)have a hard forehead and a stubborn heart.

^16 (A)“The one who hears you hears me, and ^(B)the one who rejects you rejects me, and ^(C)the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

⁴ The descendants also are ^(A)impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’

⁷ And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, ^(A)for they have not rejected you, ^(B)but they have rejected me from being king over them.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: ^(A)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, ^(B)they will also persecute you. ^(C)If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. ²¹ But ^(D)all these things they will do to you ^(E)on account of my name, ^(F)because they do not know him who sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken to them, ^(G)they would not have been guilty of sin,^[a] but now they have no excuse for their sin. ^23 (H)Whoever hates me hates my Father also. ^24 (I)If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, ^(J)they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have ^(K)seen and hated both me and my Father.

⁴⁰ yet ^(A)you refuse to come to me that you may have life. ^41 (B)I do not receive glory from people. ⁴² But ^(C)I know that you do not have ^(D)the love of God within you. ⁴³ I have come ^(E)in my Father's name, and ^(F)you do not receive me. ^(G)If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and ^(H)do not seek the glory that comes from ^(I)the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, ^(J)on whom you have set your hope. ⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for ^(K)he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But ^(L)if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

¹⁴ But ^(A)his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

^34 (A)O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that ^(B)kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! ^(C)How often would I have ^(D)gathered ^(E)your children together ^(F)as a hen gathers her brood ^(G)under her wings, and ^(H)you were not willing!

⁷ For the blood she has shed is in her midst; she put it on ^(A)the bare rock; ^(B)she did not pour it out on the ground to cover it with dust.
