²⁵ As for you, mortal, cords shall be placed on you, and you shall be bound with them so that you cannot go out among the people,^(A)

⁸ See, I am putting cords on you so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have completed the days of your siege.^(A)

¹¹ He came to us and took Paul’s belt, bound his own feet and hands with it, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘This is the way the Jews in Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and will hand him over to the gentiles.’ ”^{(A) 12} When we heard this, we and the people there urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”^(B)

²³ except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and persecutions are waiting for me.^(A)

¹⁶ I myself will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”^(A)

¹⁸ Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go.”

²¹ When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.”^(A)
