¹⁹ But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn^(A) from their wickedness^(B) or from their evil ways, they will die^(C) for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.^(D)

⁹ But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so,^(A) they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.^(B)

¹⁶ Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save^(A) both yourself and your hearers.

²⁰ as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.^(A)

¹⁴ even if these three men—Noah,^(A) Daniel^[a](B) and Job^(C)—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness,^(D) declares the Sovereign Lord.

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse^(A) him who speaks.^(B) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned^(C) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?^(D)

²⁶ If we deliberately keep on sinning^(A) after we have received the knowledge of the truth,^(B) no sacrifice for sins is left, ²⁷ but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire^(C) that will consume the enemies of God.

¹⁹ “Remnant^(A) of Judah, the Lord has told you, ‘Do not go to Egypt.’^(B) Be sure of this: I warn you today ²⁰ that you made a fatal mistake when you sent me to the Lord your God and said, ‘Pray to the Lord our God for us; tell us everything he says and we will do it.’^{(C) 21} I have told you today, but you still have not obeyed the Lord your God in all he sent me to tell you.^{(D) 22} So now, be sure of this: You will die by the sword, famine^(E) and plague^(F) in the place where you want to go to settle.”^(G)

Warning to Pay Attention

2 We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.^{(A) 2} For since the message spoken^(B) through angels^(C) was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,^{(D) 3} how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?^(E) This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord,^(F) was confirmed to us by those who heard him.^(G)
