⁹ But for the sake of my name, I brought them out of Egypt.^(A) I did it to keep my name from being profaned^(B) in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites.

⁷ “‘I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned,^(A) and the nations will know^(B) that I the Lord am the Holy One in Israel.^(C)

²² But I withheld^(A) my hand, and for the sake of my name^(B) I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

²¹ I had concern for my holy name, which the people of Israel profaned among the nations where they had gone.^(A)

²² “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name,^(B) which you have profaned^(C) among the nations where you have gone.^(D)

¹⁴ But for the sake of my name I did what would keep it from being profaned^(A) in the eyes of the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.^(B)

¹² Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’?^(A) Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster^(B) on your people.

²² For the sake^(A) of his great name^(B) the Lord will not reject^(C) his people, because the Lord was pleased to make^(D) you his own.

⁸ We’re doomed! Who will deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? They are the gods who struck^(A) the Egyptians with all kinds of plagues^(B) in the wilderness.

⁹ They answered: “Your servants have come from a very distant country^(A) because of the fame of the Lord your God. For we have heard reports^(B) of him: all that he did in Egypt,^{(C) 10} and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan—Sihon king of Heshbon,^(D) and Og king of Bashan,^(E) who reigned in Ashtaroth.^(F)
